The point I'm making is that Newc have plenty of players who were bought as definite Prem standard, and despite the relegation they're proving this time around that they are.

isn't it the case that until fairly recently Ngog had the best scores-per-minute-played stats of any Prem player?

(I could be wrong, but I read that somewhere once, perhaps even on here).

And then there's the fact that he tends to get played when Liverpool are playing their worst anyway, which means he scored those goals in what can be regarded as the most difficult circumstances.

And of course the structure of Liverpool's team doesn't take Ngog's existence into account - nothing about it is set-up with him as a potential player in mind, while the same isn't true for Sunderland's two strikers.

I don't think Ngog is a great player but neither do I think that of Bent - I'd put them at around the same level (tho of course that's yet to be seen, Ngog barely gets a kick). But I'd say Ngog has a little more to his game, and that would result in a slightly higher tally than Bent if played in a team built around him in the same way that Sunderland has been shaped for Bent.

Are you taking the piss? Bent bangs them in for fun and has done where ever he's been. Thats a quality striker. Ngog isn't.

Bent bangs them in at a rate that always disappoints his manager, hence his many clubs. He's also a striker that suits a counter-attacking side, which are generally what the weaker teams are (on the basis of of the better clubs applying greater pressure), with his playing style suiting a better side less. He's more than average, but he's not 'top quality'.

Ngog is pretty much unproven. He's had only a small number of full games, and never a run of games on his own merit, or in a team that's playing in a way that best suits his style. He's not 'top quality' either, and would also better suit a counter-attacking side.

Whether I'm taking the piss or not has yet to be seen. I could be wrong, but I could also be right.
