Rumours that Jay Bothroyd might be in the england squad.

Carroll, Phil Jones, Henderson, Daniel Sturridge are the other 4 names being banded around.

the same rumour went around last time there was an England squad and Carroll was left out of the u21s - just about every paper said it was cos he was in the seniors, when he ended up in neither.

Given that Carroll has picked up even more trouble off the pitch since, along with the FA's normal attitudes (while conveniently forgetting that the captain is a drugs cheat and the vice captain was caught on camera pummelling his fists into someone) I won't be hugely surprised if he's omitted again.

For me the only possible acceptable reason for Carroll not being in the under 21's is that he's in the full squad. As has been discussed before, the under 21's should be used purely as a way to bring players through for the senior side, not as a way for Pearce to try and win a trophy. Carroll is certainly a future england squad player (at least) so should be playing. Not sure why JET hasn't been given a call-up either

Great, so more quality reporting from the media then. Actually writing about football is beyond these idiots.

Who knows. It might be quality reporting and bullshit from the player - it wouldn't be the first time.

For example, the deals shitty have made with both Terry and Rooney, which the players bottled out of following thru on.

Given his off field antics since the last squad (and the FA's attitude towards things like that for junior players), I'd be surprised to see him included - along with two assaults (tho one of them is yet to be proven) there's the boozing and drug taking stories too.

I can't say I've seen much of him as a player, but isn't he really just the new Big Dunc? - great with his head, but not so great with his feet? And if that's the case, are England now giving up at going for skill and instead doing the trad long ball thing?

Might as well as Alladyce in as manager. :P

To be honest I dont see him as any more than a big target man. I personally think england should be disoucraged from having this type of player. The tactic of hoofing it up to the big target man has been trialled for many years and often failed. Take that player out of the side and the england players will have to focus on improving weaknesses in passing and keeping the ball.

So what young striker do you see as having a real england future then? Carroll probably isn't the player that we'd base the England team around, but he'll certainly be a very useful squad member. He looked good in the championship last season and has made the step up to the premiership look easy. It's all well and good saying we should be focusing on playing a certain way, but we can only do that if we have they players who can play in those positions.

isn't it the case that Newc haven't played many of the 'top' teams as yet?

Just Arsenal so far isn't it? - and while he scored against them, they're the 'top' team that a player like Carroll is most likely to some joy against I'd say.

True, but then you could level that accusation at almost every striker in the league. Bar Torres, Drogba and Rooney, almost every srikers record drops off badly against the top sides. I'm not saying he's the answer to Englands striking problems, but he's got the chance to be an important player for England in the future. To me this is what the under 21's is for, to give those types of players the oportunity to show what they can do against the best players in their age group. If he fails then fine, but he's got to be given a chance. Pearce has a real history of sticking with the same old players that will never make it at senior level.

Well, you can't argue with the goals scored I guess, tho I'd personally still hold off a while... but friendlies don't come around too often, so I'm not horrified by the thought of him getting a go this time if it happens (I'd forgotten it was a friendly when I'd made those earlier posts).

i can't for the life of me think why we're playing against the faroes. all that game can bring is negative or neutral headlines.
