if spurs want to do well in the champions league, then they can't afford to sell him, even for £50m.

are the media trying to get him to go to man utd or arsenal? who have just as good a chance of winning the champions league as spurs. its silly.

True. Equally the media trying to flog him already for Spurs. Obviously there'll be interest from other clubs given his performances and there probably is the possibility that Bale given his new exposure might decide to move if spurs fail to qualify for next year, but Spurs unlikely to need or want to sell him (how's finances looking Harry?) Bit unnecessary to be trying to unsettle him already.

a disgrace.

what they are basically saying is that because UK journos dared to expose corruption within the fifa bidding process, the world cup bid may be in trouble. or - keep your nose out, or f**k off.

Hardly surprising tho - given that Blatter is as corrupt as they come (such as awarding his kid the official hotel concession for SA) he's hardly likely to want the tournament in a country which is going to expose just how corrupt he is and stop him doing more of the same, is he? ;)

And ultimately it's still all to do with how the Brits in charge of FIFA until around 1970 looked down their noses at all other countries (and where exposes like these are considered more of the same). It's going to be a long time before they feel they've had their revenge.

shame, i'd have liked to have gone to the odd game in manchester or newcastle.

though i think there would be something about a close to home world cup that i wouldn't like. it's more interesting when it's in a completely different culture.

As always, the media cares more about selling copy than what effect the story would have. Could the story have waited until after the vote? Of course it could. Still at least uncle Rupert has got a few extra quid in his pocket.

Now bale has a shone in the champions league he will not want to play europa league next year. Spurs will probably have to finish above city or arsenal which is going to be tough. I dont think bale will hold spurs to ransom but I think spurs have to show him a bit of respect in terms of offering him a contract which justifies his value. At the moment they are paying ledley king more, a part time player who has far less influence and transfer value.

As much as I dislike Murdoch, I can't help but think he's not the real problem here. The real problem is FIFA. Scummy organisation. Any regular reader of the Eye or the Observer sports section can regale you with myriad stories of their idea of the football "family". Like not giving that Togo player who got shot and paralysed enough money for his operations whilst the big chiefs awarded themselves hundreds of thousands of pounds in bonuses. That was a good one.

If he carries on the form he's in and Spurs dont finish top 4 (really dont think they will), then he'll be off. Absolutely no chance that he'll want to play in the europa if he carries on his champs league form for the next couple of games until they get knocked out.

That spartak goal was the first Cech had conceded at the bridge since Carews back in April , that is one insane statistic :O

edit: there's a bit in the sun today on the 'bale love in' page towards the back, with a list of the fastest players in the league. Walcott / Drogba 2 quickest, but the fact Drogba is that fast in his 30s is frightening considering most footballers get slower as they age.

The story would have been just as relavent after the vote so why not wait and at least give England the best chance of winning the world cup and then publish the story?

except of course if it's all as fixed as the stories suggest then England don't have that chance to ruin with a story. ;)

I totally agree that FIFA are a bunch of c#nts. My issue was purely with the timing of the story. The story would have been just as relavent after the vote so why not wait and at least give England the best chance of winning the world cup and then publish the story? It's potentially cost out economy hundreds of millions (much like his offshore accounts) when we lose out now. Not that we were in any way a certainty to win before, but i think we're gauranteed to lose now.

    • Same’s happened at MSG recently with Rush and Phish alternating nights. I guess each band has its own unique production so their riggers will be kept busy
    • The rumour was uk arena tour late this year.  Same as Charli xcx cant be announced until Reading headline is done.
    • Latest from the sun at least is that harry is still headlining but Olivia has turned down a spot next year to work on new music and hope for 2028.   So they can't have Fender, Fontaines, Harry, Olivia and Madonna.
    • I mean I don't think EC and FFDP are borderline sub, they wouldn't be any lower now.   2025 is about as strong as Bloodstock gets yet this year only one headline would sub and the others would play 3rd down or lower.    Machine Head wouldn't sub at Download regardless of rarity, they don't sell enough tickets and I'm not sure Gojira would sub either. Their last UK tour was a mix of smaller arenas and academy dates. Ally Pally being the only London date, not even Wembley Arena.
    • live music / main stage will generally end around 11pm but theres dj’s and late goings on right till 4am if you are so inclined.   Drinks are about £7.50 a pint probably and yes theres lots of mixed drinks / spirits / cocktails available to buy   wonderful festival, back for my third year in a row and 4th overall
