Do you seriously think Moaniho will get the Utd job?:blink:

I know he's desperate for it, but if he does that'll be more an expression of Utd's desperation than anything to do with Moaniho.

I just can't see them wanting him, not in a million years of sensible thought.

As for chances of Mourinho, I'm not sure. Why desperation? He's undoubtably one of the best in the business.

While he's got a great success rate, it's a success that's about him personally and not about the club he's at.

That's so at odds with what Utd like to think themselves as standing for that I can only see them going for him if they feel desperate for success (to create new success if they've slipped, or to continue with it to try to avoid financial meltdown).

Fergie has been the success he has been at Utd precisely because of his longtivity, while the opposite could be said to be true of Moaniho - he's never been anywhere long enough to demonstrate that he can sustain success.

Fergie is happy to be in the background and let the players do the talking on the pitch. Moaniho is the exact opposite. He believes himself to be the most important part of a club's success.

Etc, etc.

As I say above, Moaniho is just so at odds with how Utd likes to regard itself that the culture shock from Moaniho might well screw the club (the downside), but without there being any of an upside from a manager who'll be off again within a few years.

I can't see him doing this deliberately. It may well be that he has a reasonable 'warchest' but i'd have thought that was due to being allocated money but not having any targets that he deemed to provide good value. (Or they all turned us down)

ah I get ya. Alot of very valid points but I'm not sure he'd be off so quickly. After Madrid, he's running out of club's he can feasibly manage other than the Portugal job (which he does want at some time). He's still only the translator at Barca. I'm not sure he'd go back to Italy. If he comes to United, probably unlikely he'd then go to manage a third prem club. Short of Bundesliga exploding he'd find himself short of options and where he's still pretty young in manager terms.

I'd guess he'll have decided he needs some stability at some time, and he might well acknowledge than Madrid doesn't often provide that.

Yeah, as I was writing that I realised that he's got few other options.

But there's still the fact that he's yet to show that he can sustain success, and I think that's highly relevant for a club that prides itself on the stability of the last 20-ish years.

Meanwhile, Moyes has similar temperament as fergie (as well of course the Scottish background), doesn't have a big head just like fergie, has shown he has the staying power just like fergie, and is able to get players playing above themselves just like fergie.

To me it's a no-brainer, outside of an extraordinary situation around Utd that requires them to win everything to survive.

Yeah Moyes is a good fit and I like him a lot, though obviously big step up and as benc said possibility doesn't make that step up (Hodgson so far). Friends with Fergie again; both were sat together at the Blackburn-Sunderland game together last night I think.

As I said, I'm not saying it'll be Mourinho at all, but I wouldn't rule it out. He's probably a safer option than the others which will be requiring them to step up and handle post-fergie pressure. A f**king draw and there's calls from some of the fickle twats for Fergie to resign after everything's he done, so god knows what it'll be like for any new manager. Also given our financial position likely requires pretty sustained European football, Glazers might not fancy a risk.

Since leaving, he hasn't said anything but positive things about the club, his relationship with Fergie etc, plus after the first 1-2 months, he pulled his socks up, showed interest, acted in a professional manner and scored 26-27 goals for us.

Did laugh looking at the BBC page earlier and someone saying he hadn't done that great at Madrid...um 39 goals and 11 assists in 42 starts (2 subs).

wonder what Keane was referring to yesterday aswell?

"'Players are pieces of meat – that's how I look at it. When your time's up, your time's up.

'Luckily for Wayne he's at a good age and he's fit. The difference with me is that when my time was up I had a broken foot and I was told a pack of lies.

    • I really like the Cheap Thrills! I saw them at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester in January at one of Chris Hawkins' "Awesome Friends" nights (which i think is why I even got tickets as it wasn't listed as a Cheap Thrills show!). Very good live and some great songs. I would've gone Saturday if I'd planned ahead!
    • They also seem to be in a mission to break the US with their new major label and this latest LP   Mid afternoon, live streamed on Disney+ is arguably a much bigger gig than Kendal Calling, if they had to skip one
