On paper Fabio looked a good bet. In reality he's shown himself as shit.

Someone posted (i think) yesterday that the FA need to stop letting the media appoint the manager and pick the players. And that was spot on.

Much as I hate Alladyce's style of football, I reckon he'd actually be a decent England manager - because I reckon he's probably man enough to ignore the papers and do his own thing. It might not work out, but as recent history gets to show, doing things the other way doesn't either.

Who do you think is a good manager currently at international level? There's currently only two who've done the business at the very top of both club and international level.

It's not "doing the business" (which I'm presuming you mean as winning something) that I'm expecting from any manager, but I'm expecting the manager to have some actual real ideas. Fabio has none.

The England team aren't the best in the world, but there are English players (including most of the current ones) who can perform a LOT better than was managed during the WC, last night - and actually too thru the WC qualifying, where performances weren't as good as the result got in many cases.

Getting their potential out of them comes down to picking the right mix of players (who, as I've said aren't necessarily the 'best' players) and giving them the tactics &/or formation which works for those players. There's a fair number of managers able to do that (Moyes comes to mind as perhaps the best Prem example), and international experience isn't much of any part of that, while knowing what you're trying to do is.

aye, did spanish man have any international experience before?

i'd like to think that hiddink is one who could do something for england. or has his reputation gone down in the past few years?

hiddink is only really good at improving teams who haven't grasped the 'euro' model of football. So it's unlikely that he'd do much for England.

Well Lippi won the World Cup and then four years later saw his team finish bottom of their group in one of their worst WC permances ever. The fact that his side could have preformed a lot better doesn't make him a bad manager, and he is regarded as one of the greatest ever.

Some managers will always gel (and so work well with) a particular set of players. That doesn't mean they'll manage the same with a different set of players.

Other - better - managers are able to do the same with any set of players.

Lippi isn't the second of those, so presumably he's the first (tho of course the quality of the players available to him is a part of the equation). And who's to say that his winning wasn't simply the luck of circumstances, that his style of management happened to coincide with a set of players which fitted that style?

People are far too quick IMO to glorify any winning manager, just by the fact of their winning.

Take Postman Pat (go on please ... you, anyone :P). He blamed the WC failure squarely on the players and refused to accept he was any part of their failure - yet that's him saying under his breath "so my position here is pointless, I make no difference whatsoever". Yet if he'd won, would he be saying the same? Or would he be lapping it up, claiming it was all his doing, while the likes of you walk around saying he's the best manager ever?

Like who?

Fergie for starters.

Lippi was successful over a period of some 15 years at the top of his profession with three of the four teams he managed in that period, but was still able be sacked by Inter in the middle of that - I don't think that five European finals in that time could be considered to be luck.

so what you're saying is that any time he was given a real challenge he failed at that challenge, while when he had a winning team - which is no challenge - he was there or there abouts.

Which all says far more of the players than it does him.

from the guardian:

As for Kevin Davies: it took Bolton's bruiser 16 minutes to collect the first yellow card of his international career and not much longer for him to leave his imprint on Montenegro's goalkeeper in a style that might have prompted his dismissal. Davies, who replaced Crouch on 69 minutes in this 0-0 draw, mistook his international debut for Bolton versus Blackburn. In a tournament he would be gone in 60 seconds.

talk about bad losers.

Mind you, desperate people do desperate things - and there's no doubt they're desperate. The one who handed over half of his 50% shareholding to Mill after defaulting on a loan to them is particularly in the shit, because he'll have done so with those shares already having been given as surety for the RBS loan .... which I'm pretty sure makes him a fraudster in all legal senses. Mill will lose those shares, so they're going to go after him. ;)

It's clearly the case that H&G need a financial 'win' out of all of this else they're dead in the water.

But I'm wondering why Texas. It looks to me as tho they might have a judge on their payroll.

:lol::lol: Funniest post of the year

So you think that the continual disaster of having the England team picked on the back pages of the papers is less funny?:lol:

Having the papers pick the team is proven to not work. What scares you so much about trying something different which at least has a possibility of working, rather than no chance?

I wouldn't have Alladyce as my first choice. I deliberately chose to use him as an example precisely because it's controversial.

Its for the Sun so you have to remember the target market basically have the mental capacity of a below average child. Harry has to dumb it down for these f**kwits.

Also, dont slag off the next England manager. :P

Stolen off f365, but this pretty much sums it up

ahhh, hadn't realised there were further companies up the chain.

I'd presumed that they'd decided to take action in the USA cos it'll scare the shit out of RBS and NESV, as they both operate there.

But it's defo bad form, whatever the reasons. It's like a kid who's been told off by their dad going running to mummy in the hope she'll have a different view.

The amount they're claiming (£1.6Bn ) gets to show what this is all about - they'd desperately hoped that selling liverpool would bail them out of their personal financial shite, and cos it hasn't they desperately need that cash from somewhere else, else they're gonnas.

    • Yeah f**k knows at this point.   I did a little bit of digging earlier, and it was more 'on the ropes' than categorically not happening, and the reason been that she's asking for all sorts. I think all sorts is more production based stuff rather than the fee. As I keep saying, though, there's a lot of whispers at the moment but very little concrete.
    • Ah they did yes, maybe she asked for a lot more than that. Given for example what harry had at Wembley she could have a big stage that juts right out at BST and get mega money for it for 3 nights. She won't get anywhere near that for Glastonbury
    • They did have a big ramp to the front and sides though. And the phoenix.
    • Somerset live says  Olivia Dean has turned down the chance to headline as she is concentrating on new music next year. Not a very reliable source of course.
    • They didnt move any product things etc for the stones i don't believe who commented recently on how far the crowd is away.
