U2 tour in chaos

Sort of (goodish) news... I have just gotten home from work and have a message from a friend in Miami who has done a bit of digging... He's a reporter for NBC (or some other network) and has been ringing around the stadiums in the US to see if they know of anything. So far, Soldier Field and Sunlife Stadium (I think they are the shows on 3rd and 6th July) have had no requests to potentially postpone or cancel from U2 management - so that MAY be a good sign. Hopefully something offical should come about soon

Glad to be helpful (ish) - I got the dates wrong though - those are the shows on the 6th and 9th July - i'm not quite as much of a U2 geek as I might appear! Christ, I had to look them up! Some REAL freaks fans would be ashamed! :P

I really want U2 to play. I'm not a fan, but I would imagine that they would put on a good show.

It won't be a disaster if they don't as I reckon the festival organisers phone will be ringing off the hook with agents representing acts wanting to replace U2.

Kylie is promoting her new album, I hope it's not her.

that was a pretty damn awful reply

and yeah i imagine Eavis has had tons of offers for bands to headline. whether he considers any good enough is another matter. it is Glasto after all (and the 40th anniversary) so they don't want any old crap headlining

      What is too old for Leeds Fest now ?  I'm going to the Fontaines Saturday in a few weeks at 54 !!!  I may be the oldest there 🙂    Wythenshawe may be an option for WA.

      Pretty much all festivals lose out on major artists because of production limitations though. Glastonbury is no different to most other festivals.  Lots of acts can/will adapt their tour production to suit festival stages if they want to play them, but some acts with stage designs and routines just don't want to adapt, and would rather just stick with a rigid, well-rehearsed production and take the money for their own gigs, whether that's a lot more than playing Glastonbury, or slightly less than playing some other festivals (but with added complications). Trying to adapt the stage, layout, access to b-stages etc to accommodate a single headliner on a Friday and then having to change it all around for a Saturday headliner isn't really a goer when most headliners can just easily adapt their show to stay on a main stage, if they're so inclined. They have a year to figure out how to perform a song on a main stage and ditch a few dance routines out on a b-stage if they really put their mind to it. It's not that difficult......

      I would be all over Wolf Alice but may have outgrown this venue.    Also have to consider the schedule they have been on this year so may be on a break.  This last 10 days alone they did Tramlines, New York, Chicago and Kendal Calling.  Although make hay while the sun shines may come into play.
