Alan Green I now think is a worse commentator. If anyone listened to brazil v portugal he was very disrespectful to both teams. He is such an arrogant smug bastard and I dont know anyone who enjoys his commentry. His conclusion from the brazl match was brazil cant win the world cup but england have a great chance. I just cant see how anyone who has watched the group games of both teams can come to that conclusion. Brazil havent been great but neither have england, in an easier group.

(den, also not at Glasto and not bothered either)... so the Groups are over. What a pile of shite. I think that has been the worst set of group games i can ever remember and i think its down to the gap between world teams is so narrow now...and the hype is widening.

There has been less than 5 decent games, and i think even at that,i`m being over generous.

So, some thoughts..... Only one team kept a full clean sheet..URAGUAY.

ARGENTINA...3 wins but against poor opposition. Holland also 3 wins but very unconvincing esp against Denmark...no width without Robben.

BRAZIL.... i`m f**kin sick of the commentators going bee-serk over em,saying they are in 3rd gear etc etc. I still maintain they are def beatable and wouldnt have a penny on em.

GERMANY, well apart from scoring 4 against Australia were only average.

PORTUGAL--well thrashed NK but didnt score against anybody else.

ENGLAND..how we didnt top that group eh? Passage would have been much "easier".

BUT---at least we are there! France...I`m so glad they went out in such a shambolic way, esp after the cheat against Ireland who in retrospect would have given the competition much more than those Frogs.

Italy, well joint top scorers of the Group but finished bottom.

Winners?

Well... over the years, we see teams like Uruguay and Chile looking good at some stage but faltering later on...and i think that wont change.

Suprise package might come from Ghana/USA.

Argentina must come into it...but they are weak at the back and if anybody can put them on the back foot... they are beatable.

ENGLAND... i have said from the start... we are if nothing else, difficult to beat and the game against The Sloves proved we can play with passion--is our luck gonna change?

Its wide open. Cant pick a winner.

have you ever seen so many shots go blazin over the bar? Have you ever seen so many passes overhit?

I cant believe its not the ball.

Even when players are balanced and not leaning back--the shots are fleein into the crowd.

The overall lack of control makes me feel like i`m watchin Fools at Vic Park!

C`mon you Fooooools! C`mon you Foooooools!

den, officially in poverty

They would likely face Holland or Brazil in the semis (assuming they both win) and I cant see them overcoming either of them. They are a solid team, and great going forward but they havent really been tested against a big team (France dont count :P ) and I think it may be too much for them. You never know tho, we might end up with Mexico v Paraguay and Chile v Uruguay in the semis ;):P

Aye, yer right there. Going back further ---i cant recall a shock since `66. But, as i keep saying --the gap between the teams is a lot narrower now.

Could you imagine the result of a group game in 1970 between Brazil and Ghana or Germany v Senegal for instance.

Europes teams have been seemingly diluted. Poland, Belgium, Hungary & Russia amongst others always seemed to be stalwarts of my childhood world cup memories.

very good point. but--SA teams have always played a big part in World Cups...Uraguay, Brazil, Argentina.

Its def a point that the Asian teams are always "nippy" (pun intended? your guess) and agile but dont forget the most notorious teams in world cup history have been 2 out of the 3 SA teams above...big bruising cynical bastards they were...made our Nobby look like David Cameron.

Obviously, since the clamp down on any physical contact---the game and the way its played has changed so dramatically...theres no blood and thunder games now which is a shame.

Replaced with? Masses of skill? Nah... there has been less skill shown in this tournamnet than i can remember for a long time--unless i`ve just gone way to cynical in my interpretation of the word (which is feasable).

I really do think its the ball tbh.

That was just shocking

Defence awful, Barry awful, Milner awful, Gerrard trying to be the hero instead of finding the pass, Rooney and Defoe just non existant

Thing is if Barry would have not played and it was Joe Cole on the left Milner on the right lampard in the middle and Gerrard up front behind Rooney and maybe Carrick on instead of Barry

But when they broke they tore us apart, im gutted, its just not good enough at all, Capello gets us to the world cup then we just look pathetic. Need a big change. A BIG CHANGE

just won £108 off that (2 random bets and germany winning come off), england were absolutely shocking, lampard had a good game today, rooney is diabolical (again), guess that's fabio gone then

A performance and result consistent with the other three matches against weaker opposition. Defence was awful accept Cole (probably our player of the tournament), worst game I've ever seen John Terry have.

Its easy enough to say that the players are totally overrated, but totally out of form is a much better analysis IMO. Hell, at least we made it out of the group stage!

Who knows what would have happened had Lank Frampard's great chip counted, very unlucky for him, he was our best player today. This tournament we've been a team that only performs well when we get some confidence, so I actually think we would have had a chance had we gone in 2-2 at the break.

Oh well. I'm supporting Slovakia for the rest of the tournament.

I fear for anyone who watched that at Glastonbury. To be honest you sensed it would be a waste of time when Klose scored. Schwiensteiger,Ozil,Khedira,Mueller,Podolski and Klose were masterful in opening the England back 4 up

The english media dont half shoot themselves in the foot with comments like that. To be fair I dont know a single england fan who believes philip lahm wouldnt get in the england team. Capello is a genious getting england to pay him so they cant sack him. The FA seem to have been completely starstuck around him and sven.

    • So we've signed a Horny Czech, and Bruno's turned up the training camp instead of doing Isak's nonsense.   Still not sure I believe Bruno's staying mind, but glad he's not doing the sh*t Arsenal are asking him to do to lower the price. If they want him they can stump up.   My suspicion is that whichever of Madrid/Man City don't start next season with Rodri will go for Bruno, and one of them will come in while Arsenal have f**ked about trying to get him cheap, which while I absolutely want to keep him, would still be good enough bants and a nice middle finger that I wouldn't mind it so much. I just wish we'd report Arsenal for tapping up.   If rumours are to be believed, we're after 2 more defensive signings, and an attacking player, on top of a replacement if Bruno leaves, having already signed a LW, 2 CMs, a GK, and some youth players. Huge churn, but apart from a couple of Bazou Toure's games for Ivory Coast at the world cup, I've not seen any of them play. Over 2 summers we've basically changed our entire team aside from the CBs.
