clark was the greatest, if your ever in the borders with a spare hour or two pop along to duns, there is a jim clark museum there. when u se the risks these guys were taking with their safety and they way they were driving it was insane, and so many sadly paid the price.

shumacher is just an egotistical maniac that can drive :P

i think senna is so widely loved because he was just as ruthless as shumacher on the track when competing but off the track or whenever there was any incident he was so much more compasionate and emotional and likeable.

no driver currently driving has the spark of a senna or a clark or a shumacher in his prime sadly, in terms of skill i would actually say alonso is probably the best currently, but vettel is showing alot of promise when u look at some of the pole laps he can pull out, he just needs to mature some more to convert a higher percentage of them into wins (i know he couldnt have done anything better in korea sadly)

hakkinen was a superb driver in his time aswell, well never forget his pass on shumacher down into turn 4(?) at spa while passing a lapped car - brilliant

The only answer is- who knows? There are far, far too many variables to take into account, people will have their own opinions and they're all as valid as each other.

This conversation has happened about 10 times already, on this thread alone! It just goes round and round in circles.

I think to an extent the nail has been hit on the head fair and square already - it's about the quality of his competition. And in my mind, I don't think Schumi had real quality opposition, other than Mika Hakkinnen. Senna was up against Prost, Piquet and Mansell, and even the "second string" of drivers included people like Berger and Alesi.

Also he's tainted his legacy with his blatant cheating. Yes I know Senna gave as good as he got on more than one occassion, but he wasn't ever as blatant as Schumi.

The other point is that we never really saw Schumi in a poor car, as we did with Senna. And Senna got results in the MP4/8 which was massively down on power compared to the Williams at the time.
