Smaller festivals

So, what smaller festivals do Glasto people like going to?

I went to 2000 trees last year, it was amazing. Unfortunately I can't go this year but would thoroughly recommend it for the laid back vibe (and only 1500 people)

I'm going to Wood festival this year (smaller festival linked to Truck). Folk-y kind of music, only 800 people, lots of things to do - workshops, etc.

I want to go to some more smaller festivals that have the same awesome vibe as Glasto. So what do people recommend? Any to avoid?

The Glade Festival.

Sunrise, down the road from Glastonbury at the end of May/begining June. Very chilled, like a mini-glastonbury.

Lots of hippies, but a fair few scrotes as well, so keep you valuables well stashed.

I have heard Beautiful Days has a very similar atmosphere and crowd to Glastonbury

Hopefully I will get to Hop Farm just before Glastonbury even just for the day. Its a brilliant day out if your some what local, really nice and laid back, can get on the barrier just before the headliner, a nice dance tent to. Tiny site takes about 10 minutes to walk across the arena

I went to Firegathering last year and it was asbolutely amazing.

I think Greenman is a wonderful smaller festival, having been for the first time last year. Can't speak highly enough of it, and very much in the same mould as the greenfields and fringes at Glastonbury.

Used to enjoy Truck, but at 29, I began to feel very old there last year. Went to the first Wood and, while nice, it was a little small and gentile for my tastes, with not a huge amount going on. Lovely ethos and good green initiatives, though. Boardmasters is a slick operation, with a fantastic setting, but is very much aimed at the middle-class, A-level and Uni Jack Wills brigade, while I'm hoping to try Camp Bestival for the first time this year.

I went to a few last year, I went to the Futuresonic Festival in Manchester in May which wasn't just music, it had a full social media conference, enviromental discussion and arts program and was very interesting.

The Godiva Festival in Coventry is a pretty cool free festival, Idlewild, the Twang and 80 Matchbox B-line disaster played last year.

Y-Not was a nice friendly small festival, rather a lot of mud.

Supersonic in Birmingham was a bit more avant garde/metal than your average fesitval, Venetian Snares, Zu, Caribou, Sunn 0))), Thors Hammer, PCM......

After Glasto, Bestival is the second festival I get booked up.

Blissfields - really nice chilled little festival, and the weekend after Glastonbury so helps with the post-Glastonbury blues.

The only small festival I'm doing this year is Strawberry Faire. Possibly Secret Garden Party too...
