Best little nook or cranny to hide away in and destress?

I know exactly how you feel. I'm on beta blockers for anxiety/panic attacks. Last year was my first time and there were times I couldn't handle it. I only took enough meds for one each day and it wasn't enough. This year I'm going to take enough for 2 a day, just in case. Think the days/nights are just too long for one tablet :P

I did however thoroughly enjoy it and would say it was the best experience of my life! I've promised myself that I'm going every year regardless. :P

I found lying in the sun at the Jazz-World stage to be very de-stressing. The crowds evaporated after Rolf Harris, and there was hardly anyone there for Eric Truffaz, which was a shame.

I imagine that there is a similar relaxed atmosphere during most daytime sets at Jazz-World.

As other people have suggested try visiting the Healing Fields to de-stress...

Here is a map of the area :

It is a nice peaceful place to chill out and escape the crowds....

The Permaculture area is nice too and has an organic veggie cafe, which serves lovely food.

The Circus fields are also a good place to sit and amuse yourself with some funny sights !

(weird and wonderful mine artists mostly :P )

Hope this is of some help.

I have to say that if Emily had not introduced The Park area then i would no longer go to Glastonbury. I love that area, great choice of bands and fundamentally: NO THROUGH (CROWD) TRAFFIC. also, the Bedouin cafe was chilled daytime hours. Sunday last year, while the massess where watching Blur (i presume) there were just a couple of hundred watching Seun Kuti & Felas Africa 80. Was a lovely vibe, lots of people dancing and a group lighting floating lanterns. I shall be there most of time this year, when i'm not litterpicking.

Thanks again folks - some great ideas that I'll 100% be using (apart from the Scouting for Girls one...trying to avoid mental anguish :P).

The need for some isolation and just to cut off the sensory input for a while when you hit one of these spells is huge - even if it doesn't clear it, kinda allows you the mental space and peace to find a balance point where you can incorporate it and deal - and the above advice will also push me to explore some areas I never had a proper look at during 02-04. Always a silver lining :P

I would head right up the hill on the south side of the site. Underneath all the flags - is it called Flagtopia or the lounging area? I was up there myself last year and it was very peaceful, although if you sat up you could get a great view of the site you could still kind of detach yourself from the melee below. :P

If you are watching a Pyramid stage band and need to chill out, my suggestion would be the top corner of the field where there's an ice cream van and a few concrete benches. I was having a similar bad time on the Sunday in 2008 and just went and sat there with a couple of cans of Fanta and a 99. It was bliss and allowed me to check out Goldfrapp who I really wanted to see whilst recovering. Having a six year old kid sit next to me ask "are you tired too?" made me smile. I replied "no, I just really love ice cream more than dancing ha*" in case he had a yummy mummy. Yes I have no shame when it comes to pulling tactics.

*The laugh was really stressed and loud. I was losing it like Alan Partridge at the time.

The epilogue to this story is that I needed longer to chill out and was at the end of the night crying in my sleeping bag convinced there was a helicopter trying to land on me. It had been a long festival and it's a bloody good job I don't do drugs.

Boy/Bubble, was going to say, great chilling places in the Greenfields or in the hills near The Park, but where to go if need to chill when at the main stage? I had that need in 2004 after an overindulgence. Fortunately my simlarly-affected mate took us to the wood-lodge that used to be in the acoustic field, which was calming, and I then went for a dose in the fire field. But currently am a bit struggling as to where to chill if at the main stage. I guess acoustic field with the folky stuff wafting over me in the background would be best, about 5 mins away.

I found a little seating area in the Permaculture end of the Green Futures field. Just a few wooden benches in a circle. Almost deserted in the mornings, ideal for getting away from it all and re-charging the batteries for the coming day.

Back in 08 I watched the Sigur Ros film in the small cinema yurt in the green fields , then I went up

to the Stone Circle about 6.00 am and sat on my own crying cos I so wanted to go and live in

Greenland with the eskimo's , but i was distraught cos due to relationships and work etc I prob

could not !

That was drugs !

:P

Last year was particularly stressful for me and I found the ribbon tower to be extremely calming. Obviously not so much if you don't like heights :P

The Stone Circle and Healing Fields are lovely as well.

I always thinks there are many calm spots considering the size of the raging ocean!! Permaculture Garden is a must but there is also the nice peace garden in the Stone Circle field, plus lazing on your back outside the Acoustic Tent watching the clouds roll by (not that there will be many), or up past Flagtopia where you barely see a soul and a chill at the Strummerville campfire like someone else said. All good choices. Love & Peace xx

I normally head for Permaculture when feeling 'frazzled'.. it's less chilled than it used to be, what with a cafe (not sure that's a good idea!) and all... but still quite healing.... shame they chuck you out at night now. Sometimes a sanctuary like this i just what you need. Flagtopia is great for a daytime chill and I pretty much always end up under 'the tree' in the healing fields. So sorry to see they had to pollard it a while back. Rather ironic that the healing tree was poorly!

Avoid the Christian tent on the hill near the cross. They are friendly and give you tea. Scary!
