I know it's a bit of a mundane topic to make but I just want to hear peoples general opinions on the headliners. It's a bit hard to say no arguments cause there always is on these forums :P but I just want to hear opinions :P

Here is my view on the headliners:

U2: Amazing booking, will definately be there because It'll be the only chance I get to see them live.

Muse: I'm not too fussed about this, but happy for the people that are :P I've already seen them live once before so I don't mind missing them for a band one of the smaller stages.

Stevie Wonder: SO Excited about this. It's gonna be great to end the festival with a little bit of funk/soul euphoria.

So what are your opinions then?

Oh why not - I'm bored.

U2 - oh yeah!!! Cannot wait - always wanted to see them, have discovered a few more of their albums since their confirmation. My ultimate must-see of the rumours thus far.

Muse - no, not for me. I find them very boring, massively overrated even if the dude is a talented bloke. Never liked them, and although I accept that they're a good headliner, I will be elsewhere.

Stevie - fantastic. Like U2, a real coup for the festival, and it promises to be an EPIC night.

Overall - delighted with the headliners. IF they're all confirmed of course. I don't think I could have asked for much more to be honest.

bored at uni may as well put down what i'm thinking

U2- can't wait, nearly bought tickets for their tour when they were over here but got talked out of it and i reackon i'll be something special, just need to get listening to them more now

Muse- meh been everywhere over the past few years so may see them depends on who else is playing at the time but not gonna go out may way to see them

Stevie- not my cup of tea but OMG what a headliner great way to end the festival, will be there depending on who else is playing at the same time

overall - happy with the headliners, was hoping for Led Zep but i can always dream, me thinks is definately gonna be a fun few days, and these are only the headliners who knows who else is gonna show up on that farm in june

U2 Good band, not seen them since Zoo tv, other half has never seen them so will be there.

Muse A great live act, but seen them 3 times bafore, tha last time was on tour last year so whether I go and see them will depend on who else is playing.

Stevie Wonder Great coup for the festival, but I first became aware of him through the dreadful Casio concertos he released in the 80s and as such he's never really grabbed me as an artist. Whether I go and see him will depend on who else is playing at the time.

U2 - Huge booking, one minute I'm up for seeing them then the next I'm indifferent, think I might be somewhere else but then again...maybe not.

Muse - Love them and will be watching them, thought maybe it might have been Zeppelin or Pearl Jam instead but It doesn't matter too much

Stevie Wonder - f**k yes...Unless Daft Punk are on at the same time :P

bored at work too!

U2: I'll be seeing them - but the jury is out on whether Bono will behave and just play a load of old songs, or if he'll be a nobber and bang on about politics and play everything post Joshua Tree. Ideally, they'll play the WAR album in its entirety!

Muse: Seen them many times, but wasn't overly bothered with them at the O2 last year. I think they would be better closing the festival than Stevie Wonder. I'll pop by if there is nothing better on as 2004 they really were spectacular.

Stevie Wonder: A great booking, but I really am not that bothered about seeing him. I think he'd have been better headlining a different night - not closing the festival, or better still on Sunday afternoon. I think hubby will drag me to see him, but I am hoping t'other stage has something better on.

Probably the most boring headliners in history.

U2 - Never mind Bono being a tw@t, they've been boring the hell out of me since about 1989 with their bland drivel. They are apparently the biggest band in the world. How is it that I've never actually met a true fan?

Muse - Predictable headliner, no matter how good people say they are live I just don't get it. In fact i'm not sure there is anything to get.

Stevie Wonder - Best of the three, but not my cup of tea. Should have the Tom Jone/Leonard Cohen slot and leave the headlining to someone fresh and exciting

But so what. There's bound to be better on the other stages. Dream Other Stage Headliners - Sonic Youth, Flaming Lips, Julian Cope. That would just about make up for U2.

U2: A good booking for Glastonbury and may pop down for a bit to see them then wander off again!

Muse: Seen them a few times (who hasn't?!) and may see them again but the later stuff is a bit naff so will probably end up wandering off again...again!

Stevie Wonder: No real interest to be honest and not really someone who should be closing the festival in my opinion. Sunday afternoon/evening fair enough but can see this being a bit dull.

ok

U2 - Un-smegging-believable signing. they will draw a lot of heat from hipsters and trolls. but here are the facts. the defining rock band of the last 25 years are playing their 1st festival in that period. if you havent seen them, you dont know. when they drop 'the biggies' listen to the roar of the crowd, and never regret that you actually went to see the biggest band in the world

Muse - for me, meh. but their a big band, with a big following and a massive live reputation. cant really go wrong there, but i'll be a different stage

Stevie - IMHO the best signing the festival has ever made (should it happen). a 50 year career, awards up the ying yang, party tunes like no one else. political leftie. living LEGEND!! no other festival could, or would, get him and his signing just cements why there really is no other festival like it.

over the moon, and am now starting to wish the next 139 days away cos i cant wait :P

U2 - Great. One of those bands I've always wanted to see for the hits, but never wanted to pay the expensive ticket price to see at a gig. I remember when I was 16 I said "I'd really want to go to Glastonbury when a band who really suit Glasto play, like Radiohead or U2". Now 22 (will be 23 by glasto) and my first glastonbury has U2! So that's unbelievable luck, very chuffed.

Muse - Mergh, do nothing for me. Saw them at Reading 06 and felt thoroughly underwhelmed, and haven't liked any of the new stuff since then so any disappointment is likely to be even greater. I'll use Saturday night as a chance to check out another stage headliner or just wander around and do the non-music things. On the plus side, I bet on Muse headlining Saturday, so looks like half my ticket price will be paid because a band I don't like are playing. So I'm happy for them to play all the same :P

Stevie Wonder - Another "probably wouldn't spend loads of a gig ticket but would love to see anyway" artist. Will be a laugh, and my friends have fairly diverse tastes, so good that there's something we'll all equally enjoy. From what we know so far, I think Wonder will be THE special thing at the 40th everyone will be telling their kids about. I really hope it won't be disappointing.

U2: Okay, I've got 5 months to jettison my knee-jerk anti-U2 response. The problem is I think Bono is a bit like Tom Cruise. He's actually very talented but his vast self-love bleeds into his creative output in a totally off-putting way. I'll blatantly end up seeing them though.

Muse: Never going to be my cup of tea. All smoke and mirrors, flashing lights and arpeggios.

Stevie Wonder: Clearly, he's a genius, but reports of his recent gigs have been mixed and 'I Just Called to Say I Love You' absolutely chaffs my nuts.

Good job there's always at least five headliners per night on various stages who I am up for seeing, really.

U2: Massive band that does not usually play festivals big coup for Glastonbury, you will not be able to miss them with the attitude, I will catch them at Reading or V. Not a huge fan myself, but they do have such good back catalogue, they have the potential to put on a fantastic show, and I would be worried about "missing out". That said if Faithless, Chemical Brothers or Daft Punk are playing on The Other Stage I know where I will be.

Muse: I do not hate their latest stuff as seems to be the fashion, never seen them and their reputation as a fantastic live band will probably be enough for me to check them out.

Stevie: Along with U2 quite a coup for the festival, maybe more so, and the same applies about not being able to see him later in the year. If he guarantees not to play: I just called to say I love you, I will be there, that said if a major dance act, see above, is on The Other Stage and this has been the case for the last few years, then I will take my disco biscuits over there.

U2 - Just saw the last tour in October of last year, and seeing them right by my house at the beginning of June before I fly over...so, I could miss them if something else amazing is an option. However, this will be the first headliner of my first Glasto...so, do I want to experience the pyramid? A call that could go either way since so many here say there is always lots of great options to take in.

Muse - Not a big fan, but they have moments that I enjoy of what of their music that I've heard...they just aren't as well known here as in the UK. Has potential, but I could be easily distracted away if someone I love is playing elsewhere. My hockey team (Anaheim Ducks) used "Butterflies and Hurricanes" as a theme in 2007 when we won the Stanley Cup...so, maybe hearing it live could settle my decision?

Stevie Wonder - saw him a few years ago in a much smaller venue doing a charity show. Awesome headliner, but once again...there are many acts that could pull me away. A true legend, but in a huge crowd might cause me to give him a miss...

(I was hoping for some legendary coup like Zep or Pink Floyd....but, I think those are not likely and just a wild dream.)

U2 are a a band I would never buy a ticket to, but, unless I'm somewhere else at the time, I'll go see. After all it's close to the Cider Bus!

Muse. I've seen them loads & love them live, although I think I may have overdone it with them. However, Rabid has never seen them & they will probably play an epic set at Glastonbury, so I'll more than likely be there for them.

Stevie W. A total must see I reckon. However I have never yet made it to a Sunday headliner on teh Pyramid 'cos I'm normally too broken to get that far on Sunday evening.

For the first time ever I can see an all Pyramid headlinder festival on the horizon.

Unless of course, something else has distracted Rabid & me!

Said Bono during a rock concert, clapping his hands in a dirge-like rhythm, "Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies of starvation." Said a fan in attendance, calling out from the humility-silenced crowd, "Stop f**king clapping, then".

I love that story. I have no idea if it's true, but I love it.

U2: Saw them indoors a few years back with little pomp and they were brilliant, but then saw them outdoors and it wasn't as good. I think if they just turn up and play, they could be amazing - I mean they have got anthems haven't they. Cracking booking seeing they don't play festivals.

Muse: Used to love them, but then went off them. Decided to give them another go this year, got a Wembley ticket. So not fussed really, would've liked Radiohead. But it's a good booking.

Stevie: Legend, always wanted to see him. Think it'll be a corker.

Love the story?

Im not holier-than-thou apologist for him and maybe the vibe is a little blunt from Bono but to take delight in the reality that children are dying of hunger strikes me as crass in the extreme. If someone shouted that out at a U2 gig I'd be surprised if he didnt get called every name under the sun by his fellow gig goers. The least it shows is a complete lack of maturity - the worst is a heartless impatience that beggars belief.

U2 - Middle of the road dullness. Dreadful dreadful band.

Muse - Absolutely no opinion, their music just does not register in my brain, a bit like wallpaper.

Stevie Wonder - Another "legend" who hasn't made a decent song since the seventies - will probably be ace live though.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
