But then would that not mean Ben would have never killed Jacob, as the only reason he did was cause "Alex" (locke) told him to do whatever Locke asked, and he agreed, this is providing the plane still crashed and the losties went to the island

It's ok if u dont get me, im confusing myself

My theory:

Aaron is Jacob's son. Claire got jiggy with Jacob at some point and Aaron is the result. There's a bit where Claire names him Aaron and she just knows the name like an epiphany. Jacob has had something major to do with Aaron's existence at the very least, I think.

Jacob is the light. Smokey is the dark. Jacob keeps Smokey on the island as a fortress, trapped in time, away from the rest of the world, like a genie in a lamp (smoke, genie, makes some sense). Maybe it wasn't Jacob who trapped him there, but Jacob is the one tasked with guarding the island, and it's inhabitants.

The island feeds off of the life force of specific people being on it in order to have the power to keep the genie trapped in its bottle. Maybe only lost souls grant the island it's power over Smokey (or it feeds off the power of spiritual redemption or something, which is what pretty much every one on the island has been doing - fighting their inner demons). They have to be people who truly belong on the island in order for the hex to manifest properly, hence the specific people requirred that Jacob dutifully gathers for their higher 'purpose'. In order for smokey to escape, he will need to kill everybody, just as Richard says. The people are like batteries or conduits, keeping the power on Smokeys cage.

Likewise, everytime there has been a soul lost or tainted, on the island, like Ben, Smokey has become stronger as a result (Ben killed Jacob and Locke). The redemption of the characters on the island will be theirs and the planets salvation. Not sure what this means for Sayid.......

Jacob is/was selfless, and does not care for his life, as he knows he has a successor - this is why he doesn't care when he dies, he's like a Jedi or something. He's a creator and a defender. Smokey is selfish, and a destroyer. It may be possible they are both two sides of the same fracturred diety, yin and yang sort of thing, where one cannot exist without the other, which is why Jacob seems so bound to Smokey.

The visions of the boy are of Aaron, from the future. Aaron is Jacob reincarnated or something like that due to him being his offspring. Jacob as we knew him really did die, but he cannot be killed spiritually, he lives on through Aaron, and I think Smokey knows it.

The alternate universe is a universe without Jacob. Smokey is free. Everyone in this universe will end up dead. It will reveal the importance of the island and the people on an epic scale.

Claire never said who Aarons dad was, did she? And she hasn't been around to make the connection with recent events with the mysterious Jacob....until now. She and Aaron have a seriously massive role in all of this I think.

I wonder if Jacob and Smokey Locke guy are both Gestalt Entities - in that they are the spritual manifestation of the islands inhabitants (if you've ever seen the Red Dwarf episode "Legion" then you'll get this). That's why they need specific people to derive their forms from. If purely bad people inhabit the island, people like Ben, then Smokey wins, that is how he kills Jacob. Maybe he simply wants to stop existing and is seeking annihilation, and to do that he simply kills everyone on the island.

They're like two embodiments of each side of the human soul, or conscience; good and bad, in constant battle, and it is up to the people which one ultimately lives or dies.

No people on the island = no Jacob and no Smokey. I think the alternate universe is a universe without them.

Difficult to post anything about the show at this stage without getting into trouble!!

Few thoughts:

Claire is a horrid & unappealing character and Ive never liked her. This current guise is even less appealing that the former moaning little git. Its putting me off the show in a big way that she's back and central to the plot as fLocke's second in command.

The lack of Desmond/Ben/Richard in the last few eps has been mega frustrating.

I get the impression that the show is unravelling rather than ends being tied up.

Dunno who else said it on the thread but I reckon theres a big red reset button going to be pressed and the flashsideways that we're seeing is "the way it happened".

thinking about it, i think that's right. surely if a 'reset' button is pushed, this means that widmore isn't involved in all the crap wi the island, which perhaps allows penny to go on the boat with him that he crashes on? and maybe they end up crashing and living and dying on the island alone?

in the "reset" timeline desmond was on flight 815 with the rest of the cast i.e. living a normal life off the island, where as in the "normal" timeline he woiuld have been on the island pressing the button for months or years before they arrived.

    • I'd definitely consider a Blink/BMTH/FNM headline trio. If they can get Edguy over for one of their last shows, it'd probably seal the deal.
