Off tomorrow afternoon to the Steelhouse Festival in Ebbw Vale.  First festival with my new (well new but still second hand) caravan, which I only was able to collect and try towing for the first time today.  It's a big twin axle Dethleffs with two full sized fixed beds as well as the usual singles/double at the front.  Also got a new awning which I'll have to discover how to put up on my own as the rest of the gang aren't arriving till Friday night/Saturday.

Here's hoping I'll manage to tow it up a bit of a mountain (Steelhouse claims to be the highest altitude festival in the UK).

Bought a wood fired pizza oven/smoker for my back garden today - half price. Not the best one in the world but looking forward to having a few pizza and beer evenings whilst there's still some summer left.

I didn't know that such a thing existed. I'd like to make a pizza that way, so will look in to it. Thanks. :)

I've just bitten the bullet and self published a children's book on Amazon. I suspect that it's highly probable that it'll not sell a single copy. I'm just happy that it's 'out there' now and not languishing in a file on my computer.

Oh brilliant, hope it does sell.

Even if not, I wish i'd kept up with my writing, instead of letting the mundane take over.

Good luck with it, and keep those creative juices flowing :)

Thanks feral. To be honest with you i wrote the book about 30 years ago and then also let the mundane take over. It was something that was always at the back of my mind though and has kept niggling me over the years. Anyway, I've done what I can with it now so maybe that I can stop scratching that itch.

In my dreams I'd like to write more stuff but life does indeed seem to get in the way - well, life and procrastination.

Shambala is getting closer. It'll soon be play time. The thought of this is making me happy right now. Plus I'm going to hook up tomorrow night with some of my family and friends. Really looking forward to tomorrow evening/ night. I'm going to have a fire in the back garden. Two of the trees already light up at night because they are drapped in solar powered fairy lights. A few candles here and there, a few drinks etc - should be good. Unless it's pissing down, of course.

I'm a sucker for fairy lights. I didn't even think of getting solar powered ones.

It sounds fantastic.

I'm just back from France where I met up with my son and his girlfriend's family - my son announced his engagement there - did the whole traditional thing - asked for her hand in marriage - father, bended knee, the lot.

Don't know whether to admire his romantic streak or deplore his lack of feminist awareness :D

The solar powered lights are fab. All the kit is waterproof so (during the summer) they light up the trees every night.

Congratulations to your son. I was standing when I proposed to my wife. If I'd gone down on bended knee she would just have taken the piss out of me.

My wife has opened  a shop (of sorts) and it's proving to be very interesting in terms of the punters that go in there. They would appear to come from all walks of life and have universally indicated that they would like the shop to succeed. People have given us their own stuff to sell without wanting anything in return - except to be able to shop in the shop. We've had complete nutters in, people trying to fence stuff come in, poor people come in, wealthy people come in - the whole plethora. But today beat it all - we've had a guy so nice to us (a young lad) that he bought in a couple of bags of food for us because he knows the shop is not fully supporting us. Then he tells me about a skank which has already reduced a certain expense by two thirds (fuck you energy provision company). There's whole swathes of comraderie and also a feeling that there's a community there - something I've never really experienced before. This is making me happy right now.

That sounds really good. I hope this works out for you.

I've just come from the shop (it's open on a Sunday) and met another really nice friendly bloke there. My wife tells me that he bought two basques off her (it's not that kind of shop - it's a vintage clothes shop) last week, only that they weren't for his girlfriend but for himself. Apparently he likes clothes to fit really tight and is obviously not adverse to wearing a basque or two. I got talking to him and he has travelled and lived in various parts of the world. Really interesting bloke on the whole.

Wish I did something that brought me into contact with an interesting group of people. can't afford to give up my secure job though.

I know what you are saying. I worked for one employer for 25 years and apart from one person (who is now a dear friend) I never found anybody around me interesting - well, not in a good way.

What makes me happy?  My own stupidity, eventually.

On Thursday, a warning light came on in my campervan - the oil light. That's terminal for the engine, unless it's an electrical fault.

I've spent the last few days trying to get a garage to change the oil pressure switches in the hope one of those (there's two) has failed, but so far they've been too busy.

This morning I managed to persuade a VW specialist to give it a quick look over, who quickly pointed out it wasn't the oil light but was the water light - so a quick top up, and it's sorted.

I'm such a fucking numptie.

But I have a working van. :)

And you got your pound back from the water dispenser at that petrol station.

    • Avril gets above GC on rarity (see Cypress Hill this year). She drew in something like 70,000 at Glastonbury, so much so that they had to close the field off. I’d wager that she would get the biggest crowd of the entire weekend if she was to play DL.
    • We've reasonably predicted/wanted a bill of Blink, Avril, Good Charlotte for a while 😅    I'm surprised that Good Charlotte's UK shows in November seem to be doing well atm... obviously if they sell out those venues then they should be subheadliners right? (if they play download that is). They'd only look a strong sub if it was before Blink though I rekn.

    • Well Jason Isbell is on blistering form for this run of European gigs, wonderful night in Bristol
    • I am also interested in this. I was looking for past years, and it looks like it has a limited capacity.  I would love to see Ela Minus, but I guess I won't be able to make it in time, unfortunately.
