Interpol

Would love a bit of Interpol, Pyramid or Other would be good. Possibly even John Peel headliners? I'm not sure how big they are in this country? Assuming the headliners on the other stages are big acts then I think they could do it.

they were on before Libertines on a very hot late afternoon on the Saturday of '03 if I recall correctly. they weren't great, but solid. Michael Stipe was watching from the side of the stage. They've fallen back a bit in popularity, so can't see they garnering more than a late afternoon/early evening Other Stage slot, no later than 7 pmish, esp. on the 40th anniversary year with supposedly big acts playing

i was sure i made an Interpol thread a month or so back when i learned of their new album and plans to tour this year.

i love Interpol but have never managed to see them live so would love for them to be there, as for their popularity waining i don't think that's the case they're still as popular as they ever where it's just they've gone off the radar a bit by taking a break.

as for people who claim they are dull live, their kind of music and style doesn't lead me to believe their performances will be some kind of energetic affair and a more laid back chilled out performance, why you would expect any different after listening to their music is beyond me.

I like Interpol's look and sound (to a certain extent) on record. But live they just don't shake my tree. Last time (at Oxegen 2007 methinks) there was only bout 2000 watching them on the second stage there and I'd say 2/3 of them were just there to hear "Evil". Only my opinion but "Slow Hands", "PDA" etc etc just don't come over that great live.

The Strokes arent the best outfit either but you have to admit their first album is a serious piece of work.

Seriously, what am i reading? Interpol are possibly the most underrated band of the moment. The consistency of brilliance on all 3 albums means they should be held in much higher regard.

Seen them live a few times and they are spellbinding. Glasto would be very lucky to have them - just a shame they won't be in a headline slot that they so thoroughly deserve!!

If Bloc Party can headline the Other last year, then surely Interpol would more than carry it in 2010.

I'd love them to play and I thought they were great at Latitude, you don't have to jump about to be a powerful and memorable performer. Buuuuut I do reckon if you didn't know any of their songs you might not exactly get swept away with them based on a live show. I think they're a 'listen to albums first' band and then you can appreciate them live...

But don't get me wrong, I love 'em!

I agree. I love them but live there is something missing with them.

Wrong wrong wrong! My love for Interpol is mostly to do with the perfection of their timing from soft stuff to hard fast stuff. They lack this ability live.

    • Annie Lennox could be the one to unite the whole forum, nobody has a bad word to say about her, even noted curmudgeon Skip 😄 I'd probably even amble along for a bit meself, and i'm also a miserable sod
    • If the below link works - thats interesting.   While I don't particularly put much stock in that account as a source (never seen it before though, tbf), and I can pick a hole or two (see below) in what he says - the timing of it is a week before I had the Fontaines '27 stadium info (same stadium he says on there, Tottenham). The info, or part of it, matches up.   Holes I'd pick: I'd have to watch again but I THINK he says 'end of year' for Tottenham - not possible, for a number of reasons, though he's probably just got his words mixed up there. It's Summer '27, or that's what I've been told. He also says Glastonbury is/would be based on how the album does. That doesn't stack up to me, unless it was a 2028 thing. I suppose that could stack up, but still seems a bit of an odd approach. I would personally still expect it to be 2027 alongside the stadium gigs, IF they are gonna do it, though I've still not got a Scooby when the album is gonna drop, only that the tour is due for Spring (or early) next year.   Interesting, nonetheless.   https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaOB3Q9qkwW/
    • I was hoping that they would just do a tour like they were set to in 2020, rather than having Download as their UK appearance. If they are at DL, I would be surprised to see them headline. I think they sub under Deftones or SOAD
    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
