The coincidence of both 40th anniversaries is an intriguing one!

Don't think its FM's 40th anniversary - 1967 they formed - although their first number one came in 1970 (

However Glastonbury 2010 is almost 40 years to the day since Led Zeppelin played the 'bath blues festival (shepton mallet)' , which went on to inspire ME to start glasto

Also its Live aid's 25th anniversary almost to the day

We already have U2, Robert plant says yes, perhaps there maybe a bryan may/plant collaboration (IE Queen connection), and spandau ballet are doing the rounds

Just need macca (he's also on tour), Clapton (ditto) and we could have a mini Live aid reunion on our hands

for Glastonbury to put out a denial statement (something they won't normally do, instead they normally refuse to comment on bands to any extent) makes me think it's exceedingly unlikely that Fleetwood Mac are playing at all.

A "spokesperson" was asked about it, hence the denial, but they never said anything about them not playing.

yes, but as I said, normally is they're asked about any particular band the response is "we will neither confirm or deny this". As they've actually made a denial then I strongly suspect it's not happening.

Added to that is what Michael said to me back in March about eFestivals having F.Mac rumoured back then - it very much seemed that they're not a band Glastonbury would consider booking.

I suspect that they've made this denial precisely because eFests had them rumoured for this year, and they don't want people thinking it's coming true for next year.

I have no 'understanding', only guesswork based around how things normally work and what has been said to me or said in the press.

1. I'm pretty sure it's the case that Michael has been reported/quoted as saying the Sunday headliner is "a young person's band".

2. Michael (in a friendly way) took the piss out of me over the F.Mac rumour that was listed on efests for 2009. A conversation took place between Michael, main booker Martin Elbourne and me about it ... I was left with the strong impression that they won't ever play Glastonbury, if for no other reason than they apparently want silly money.

3. it is *VERY* unusual for Glastonbury to make any comment about any rumoured band. That suggests to me that they won't be playing.

Thanks Neil for clearing the confusion. Never mind as a consolation I'm going to see Fleetwood Bac next week - who are a pretty good FM tribute band.

If the real things want silly money maybe Bac could be engaged for one of the lesser stages as a consolation prize.

All 4 musicians in Fleetwood Mac have there own separate managers, lawyers and staff etc (i.e agreeing with each to play for next to nothing).This coupled with that fact Lindsey and Stevie have little connection to Glastonbury within there lives, and the fact they would prob only get a second from top slot, (i.e. little money for a band that sells out huge arenas in america) makes this unlikely. Not syaing this is right, but a real shame though as I genuinely think that they would be the surprise hit of the whole weekend - and it would reunite their interest in this country.

Given what's been said above, two thoughts spring to mind :

1. Anyone who wants to see F Mac there next year should post on their website, and tell them (or their management) to stop asking for silly money. My feeling is that the USA half of the band don't get what Glasto is about though

2. There's an exceedingly slim chance that Mick Fleetwood and John McVie could play as the original F Mac. Dunno if they could get Peter Green interested, but all they need are 2 decent blues guitar players. They got the set list for sure..... Albatross, Black Magic Woman, Green Manalishi, Oh Well, Rattleshake Snake etc
