Love the Farm, Leave no Trace.

When we packed up on the Monday we were meticulous about making sure we got everything and cleared up the pitch as best we could and there were many around us doing likewise. Then walking off camp, I was shocked to see the amount of litter, abandoned chairs/tents/gear and general crap people left behind.

Couple of days later there was a vid on the official site from one the cleanup crews driving round the farm showing the various fields and the mess they were in. I was appalled, but the commentary on the site said it wasn't as bad as some years.

Is it always like that? Anyone here got anything to confess??

These people are pigs. I am always disgusted by the mess some leave behind. It's not difficult to set up your rubbish bags when you get there - put everything in as you along and then tie and leave it neatly for the rubbish crew.

Makes you wonder what their homes are like - candidates for Kim and Aggie?!!!!

Buy a tent that will last you many festivals and camping trips, rather than the 10quid pile of shite which really can only be used one (will leak)... and thus be left in a mangled heap in a field in Somerset. Thankyou. x

I think you have it in one, can't understand why people bring so much stuff, i take basics...Tent ...Sleeping Bag...just enough clothing,wellingtons, one pair good Boots. Why give yourseff a hard time humping so much up from the car...only to leave it behind?

I take this terrible throw-away culture at festivals to my advantage.

I maybe pick up one or two camping chairs on the way out, to upgrade my own! (taking mine with me obviously and disposing of at home). I feel I'm doing good for myself and the farm.

I think this year was the best year for our group in terms of lack of rubbish. Well maybe not as there were more of us than ever before, but nearly everyone seemed to have the right attitude where as in previous years there have always been some people who don't really think about cleaning up. We even manage to group guilt trip two people taking their tent away. It was an expensive (although cheaply made) one and they were just going to leave it! We made them feel bad and they took it home and then used it again in Benicasm (can never spell it), or at least they did until it blew away!

We do end up making a mess with general rubbish whilst we are there but tend to have a big clean up once a day and then a final clean up at the end and put all the rubbish bags together in a pile. It's not difficult and there is bound to be 10 minutes where someone is hanging around waiting for others or something - that time can easily be used to do a quick clean up.

I will confess - when we did Glasto in 2007 we left our tent in situ. We were going travelling and generally getting rid of everything we owned. My intention was to pack it up and hand it in to the charity stand but it was still peeing it down after peeing it down all weekend. I was just too tired from humping through the mud all weekend. Plus I suspect it would be a lot more usable if it were taken down when it was a bit drier

In our defence, we did tidy away all our rubbish. All that was left were the erected tent and the pillows inside.

Most parties have a big clean up job the next morning. Same deal here, but on a bigger scale. It's always going to be the way I'm affraid.

I'm not going to say i left no trace at all but i did my best to clear everything up.

Realisticaly we will all leave a trace, cant be avoided but if we all put in a little effort we can minimise it and make our impact managable.

I have always wondered how long it takes for the grass to recover, does the usual layer of mud protect it?

Only took what I needed,I carried it in one load to and from the car,(friends carried the small tent)never left anything behind at all.

There was a huge group of young lads camped near us and it was a complete sh!thole all round their tents by Friday, come the Monday they left the place in such a state, I also suspect them of nicking my brothers flag, the little shytes...

We only take the stuff that we genuinely need, not stupid stuff that we are never going to use. I am an explorer scout so even when it was my first glasto I knew that I had to pack light because it would be a pain to carry it back to dads car at 4AM on the monday.

I always take the right amount of clothes, wellies, tooth brushing equipment, some snacks to keep me going, and £200.00 (I spend £50.00 max a day, but the spending gets less when bands are on obviously.

Mr Eavis lets us have the time of our lives by putting on such an amazing event, I think the least I can do is tidy up after myself

So yep, when we left the only thing that remained was the print of our tents on the grass

Checked and double checked we hadn't left anything lying around (especially things like cigarette butts and wet wipes, which sometimes go astray - even though my hubby was suffering crippling stomach cramps and got carted off by medics Mon am (what a nightmare that was...!) I just have a lot of respect for the countryside and hate to see things left that shouldn't be there....Always depresses me leaving Glasto and seeing all the mess

Not everyone who brings stuff leaves it behind. Some of us need to bring most of our food and drink to make it financially viable.

We've always taken quite a lot - needed three trolley trips this year from the car park - but we take everything away with us, apart from rubbish which is separated and properly binned.

I am horrified by the amount of rubbish that people leave behind. We do a fingertip search of our area and leave nothing. Every tent peg is accounted for and the tiniest scrap of paper is picked up.

I've done litter picks at other festivals and it does make you conscious of littering. I won't even drop a fag end and carry my butts in a container till I get to a bin.

At one festival absolutely nothing could be left - for example we were having to pick up silly string and the little bits of paper from party poppers. But the worst is clearing up plates of food that people have just tipped on the ground. (Try collecting a cold curry dropped in long grass!

If Glasto organised a mass litter pick for half an hour each day it might make a few others think twice.

I agree with earlier comments that the 'throw away' society and particularly cheap tents don't help. I've used the same large tent for 10 festivals now. When I get home I take it out, repair any broken poles, guy ropes or other damage and then pack it away dry for the next outing.

It's not hard.

T in the Park site is disgusting by Monday! Folk just dont care and leave stuff behind them on the ground! The amount of tents/chairs etc left is also terrible!
