...and Rock Werchter last year (plus about 5 other times!)...where I have to say they were magnificent. In fact, I'd take the 2008 RW headliners quite happily (REM, Radiohead, Neil Young & Beck)...but I guess we really only have a realistic chance of two of those.

I listened to Automatic For The People on the way into work.

Brilliant, brilliant album. Saw REM at Manchester Move in 2003 - they were amazing.

So a big 'Hell Yeah!' from me.

just a great band with an awesome catalogue.

i went to see em last year at twickers and they were awesome, so good in fact i went a bought the latest album (i have to admit that i hadnt bought the last 2 cos the stuff since monster had been pretty average IMO) and loved it - a real return to form!!

Which was their latest? The last one I bought was Up, which I love. Obviously, I got 'The Best Of' but that doesn't count.

I'd also forgotten about 'The One I Love' until it appeared on Guitar Hero: World Tour and it got me back into them. I love that song.

They were amazing at T in 2008! The only thing was they heavily played their new album which i dont think is too strong!

However, they were still a brilliant band and could see them headlining this year to be honest!

I'd be chuffed to bits with REM as a headliner. Big fan and never seen them live. I agree that after Monster their stuff tailed off a bit and haven't got/heard Accelerate. I can see some iTunes time in my immediate future though....

R.E.M. are brilliant. I've seen them many times including at Glastonbury 99. I'd be very happy if they headlined but I can't see it happening having played twice before. Second from top or co-headlining would be great. For those that haven't got Accelerate I'd really recommend it - definitely a return to form and earlier sounds. R.E.M. didn't decline with Monster - New Adventures in Hi-Fi is one their very best and criminally underrated.

REM were the first real band I have seen and I still think they are the best thing I have seen live. Not only do they have a superb back catalogue but Stipe is a tremendous front man with a great voice. If they headlined it would be great and no doubt draw a huge crowd.

    • Audrey Hobert getting a lot of traction lately and new single on Friday. Wonder if she could be round next summer.
    • Think Pulp are optimistic, not in terms of size but just that they've been on the road (albeit not intensively) for 3 years in a row and it feels like EotR is the deliberate end of the cycle.   Would be fairly surprised if they're active next year.
    • 👍 plus they brought their own screens 📺 either side of the stage.
    • Production was the only thing that could even explain why she would back out. Like they had sorted out the financials and she was fine with it and then a production meeting happened. It all fell apart. It was very clear that she was not going to compromise her show one bit and then that show in Brazil pretty much confirmed it. There was like one element they couldnt pull off outdoors, but it was negligible since the rest was a carbon copy of the tour she had been on. Glasto is not willing to make any bold changes on the Pyramid stage so then theyre kinda stuck in terms of what some acts want/demand. I think the easiest solution to that is putting her on Friday. You deal with the changes for one night and then re configure for the rest of the weekend. In 24 they were fortunate to have had Dua and Coldplay on Fri and Sat so they could both use the b stage. But I think it was removed for Sunday?     I saw a random rag article earlier that said Olivia Dean turned down Glasto BECAUSE her ex ( not even confirmed dating ) Harry Styles was playing the fest. hahahaha
