Size of glasto

hi,

I am going with someone next year who has only ever done download fest. How can i put the size of glasto into perspective for them compared to download?

Tell them it's massive, then prove that point by taking them to the stone circle/wherever has a great view.

My mates didn't really trust my blabbering about the size of the place until we got there (I was simply going by what I heard here)

when you get over the hill in your car or on the coach, and see that festival filling the valley floor, the words "f**k me, that's huge" are most appropriate

I had seen it in countless pictures and went "wow, that's massive", but once the bus FINALLY got near the festival site so that we could actually see it, I nearly shit myself in awe. Pics aren't adequate preparation.

Didn't realise Download was so small, same as Reading when I saw it on TV the other day. Guess we're just spoilt at Glastonbury!

I remember hearing it was the same size as the city of Bath, that was sometime ago now and it's probably bigger! Reasure them that it doesn't feel that big so you don't scare them too much.

For the duration of the festival, the Glastonbury site is one of the largest 'towns' in the UK...

Some of my friends are going for the first time since the 80's - the size difference will shock!

Try and imagine a massive festival site, then double if not triple it!

I was looking at a map of it in 2000, even then it was lot smaller than now! The difference from the 80's to now would be mental

Remember drunkenly accompanying the Glasto noobs and LuciousLucy up to Kings' Meadow after the eFests meet this year for the traditional, "keep your eyes shut, now turn round and now open them" visual culture shock. Is always great to witness.

I'm with glastofreak. Don't make an issue of it.

Then frogmarch them to the top of the King's Field, no looking back til you reach the top.

Tell them it takes about 40 minutes to walk from one end of the site to the other if you're lucky enough to meet no crowds or obstructions at all, an hour if you do.

I still use the size of the city of Bath and and a five mile walk from one side of the fest site to the other to try to get across the idea of the enormity. Also 17 stages and 600 shops/stalls/food outlets.

At night from our campsite we talk about walking down 'into town'.
