They're just being realistic. It doesn't matter how much they encourage preople to use public transport, there will always the majority (is it?) who either don't care, who have no choice

This is a bad idea in terms of the environment. Me and my friends were gonna book our coach tickets early, because National Express have frozen the price at the same level as it was earlier this year, but now we're gonna wait to see whether the car parks will actually open on Tuesday. If they do, everyone wants to go by car instead of coach, so we can get there earlier.

I think a lot of people will switch from public transport to private transport because of this.

The majority of train travellers were always beaten by the early arrivals in cars, but can anyone remember whether there were a reasonable number of coaches that would get there earlyish, e.g. By 9am?

It is an interesting idea. Letting the campervans in earlier is a no brainer, get the largest motors off the road.

Car parks opening at 8 pm. Personally I am all for it. We travel all the way from Newcastle, have done it by bus, train, driving over night and last year got a hotel outside Bath on Tuesday night, left the hotel at 7am cos I thought it would be a straight drive al a satnav and take 40 minutes.

We got stuck in traffic for hours. At one point I was even out of the car teaching people in other cars Rolfs court of king caractacus dance.

If this does go a head we will just hire a camper and sleep in it in the car park Tuesday night. Yes the queues at the ped gates could be massive by 8am but that is better then it being queues on the road. The less impact the festival has for people who live in the area the better.

I would go and see what the queue situation was like at about 6 am and join just with tents if needs be. That way not queuing loaded down. Get wrist band get in and get tent up. Collect rest of stuff from camper as convenience, its gonna be quicker getting back in for sure.

We were going to get a hotel for Monday night too but could just use the camper again.

A Park 'n' Ride stylee system is exactly what I would be looking at trying to implement if it was anything at all to do with me. Rather than renting fields next to the festival for parking, I would be looking for several similar overall sized areas close to motorways or more suitable high capacity roads and then bus peeps to the site. Spread the traffic around but try to keep it on roads somewhat more suitable for 1000's of extra cars than country lanes. Ditto with train services - look at possibly using additional local(ish) stations rather than primarily just Castle Cary which really can't cope with the amount of passengers as it is now never mind with more. The festival claims to be 'green' and it claims to promote environmental issues together with showcasing appropriate solutions to them but it seems to me that it also kinda shys away from taking bold and potentially somewhat unpopular steps which, if done properly, would clearly demonstrate that not only are more sustainable options available but they can be made to work quite successfully.

It was ridiculous though, his set. Jazz World just not big enough!

nope lol I had taught to the three people I was with then many people in the queue. Yes I can sing along as well. However when I was teaching it on the side of the road we have it blasting on the car stereo. My mate Sam would have never been to a festival with me said it was at that point she realised how messy it all was going to get cos not a drop of drink had passed our lips.

You can imagen how gutted I was when I could not even get in to Jazz/World to see Rolf.

This will be my 7th consecutive Glasto and the first time i will be travelling by car.

After last years debacle i'm no longer prepared to plan my arrival time around National Express. From Liverpool leaving at 8 o clock we weren't there till almost midnight.

Even if the National Express gets there on time it gets in for around 3.30 pm. That now seems too late compared to the numbers that arrived early last year so looks like an early start and car for me.
