Actually, another potential solution:

Hand out "abandoned" tags, for people to put on tents.

You are allowed to abandon your tent if you tag it in a prominent place.

You are allowed to pack up any tent you find that's tagged, and take it home yourself.

I'd probably pack up a random tent, take it home and put it on eBay, if I knew it was abandoned.

(scheme probably fails horribly on wet years, when everyone just wants to leave)

I left my soul there in 2008. I didn't pick it up in 2009 as I wasn't there, but I know where I buried it and will pick it back up on the Wednesday next year.

Unfortunately, it means I've been a right c**t for over a year now without it, with 11 months or so still left to go until I can reclaim it, and thus return to being my usual nice self.

well, as you know, when it did happen to me (not at Glasto) I spent the whole time almost wetting myself at the stupidity of what was happening .... helped along by the fact that I knew I'd have weed back in my pocket within 2 minutes of the old bill finishing with me.

Recycling and thousands of pounds worth of perfectly good camping equipment going in to landfill.

Litter Pickers treated like absolute garbage (pardon the pun), rumours circulating of them being fired for no reason just to line someone else's pockets.

People not taking their stuff home with them. Although in some defence it was generally believed that all equipment was recycled and not just dumped in the trash.

Lazy workers not cleaning toilets at Shangri La and Trash City which were appauling (I spoke to many people behind the scenes!).

Greedy money grabbing workers on the Glastonbury Festival staff treating people badly and cutting corners to line their own pockets.

Lack of communicaion between Security, Police, Stewards etc

Security being too heavy handed and starting their own martial law.

The above doesn't apply to everyone and this isn't a difinitive list of the issues, but these are just some areas that are seriously lacking at Glastonbury Festival. My favourite place in the world got seriously tainted this year. If things don't change I won't be attending next year and that would be a huge shame. I have simple ideas to get things improved and if no-one at the Festival Office is prepared to talk then I think that's incredibly narrow minded. People are prepared to volunteer time to help, changes do not have to increase costs. I only got back from the site on Sunday so I have a lot to put together, I hope I can make a difference and I have had messages of support already.

Just seems a little bit of common sense and a lot of respect is lacking here and I'm taking it on as my own little mission to initiate change.

What I STILL dont understand after attending this festival 10 times in 14 years is how and why so many of the regular law abiding citizens that live very normal, day to day, clean, recycling, generally good to your neighbour and fellow man humdrum lives that attend manage to behave in such a way that is quite shocking if it was the RealWorld...I am referring to the littering, the not giving a shit about the neighbours, the land, the owners etc.

Do any of these people young and old live in such ways back in RealWorld...I highly doubt it. I highly doubt any of the selfish folk leave piles of shit everywhere at home, have houses which are covered in crap they cant be bothered to pick up and highly doubt they go around their daily lives with the same f**k off attitude they have when at the festival.

WHY does living in Micheal Eavis' field for 5 days bring this out in such a large number of people? I really really cant understand it.

In RealWorld...ok this may me a bit sweeping statement here, I dont mean to offend, it merely trying to make a point...but the only folk the regular British public usually tar with the brush of 'dirty, messy, littering folk' are the travellers. Not so sure these days but it was certainly that way not that long ago. The outrage in any small village the NIMBYs have when nomadic people arrive to try to live on a patch of village for a while and then leave it covered in a bit of mess is always crazy and yet...and yet...precisely the sort of folk who would normally have a right cob on if aforementioned alternative folk turned up in their area and messed their part of the world up...go to a lovely farmer's land which he has opened up and invited everyone to come and party at behave with utter disregard and selfishness! Confuses me THATs for sure!

I mean...why and how does living in Eavis' field for 5 days make people think and behave this way? It truly is disgraceful. Why does living in a field mean you have to become a disgusting litterbug with a total f**k off attitude and no care for anyone around you? When everyone is back in RealWorld you abide by RealWorld laws...Glasto is NOT another planet even though obviously thousands think so and obviously still believe that pixies and fairies exist at G cos it is them who are picking up the litter isnt it? Not the hard working kids just trying to find a way to get to the best fest on the planet.

I couldnt bare to be a litterpicker as I reckon your tolerance and regard for humanity must be so f**king low at the end of it all that counselling may not be far off!

I just dont understand it. I know it is a hassle to keep your camping area clean but it aint difficult to tidy up much like you would at home does it??? And the 'f**k it, I cant be arsed to tidy up, take the shit back to the car, its someone else's problem' attitude is such a load of bullshit....but until I suppose festivals are possibly banned, most people will somehow carry on not giving a damn. Afterall...noone comes along and tells you off do they? You are already off site...and out of mind! FFS! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I like the idea of abandoned/not-abandoned tags! It seems such a waste when people leave fully working tents behind! Two of our group tried to do it and got so much stick from us for it. They were convinced to at least pack it away and hand it to the info points but by the time they packed it up they decided they may as well take it!

A friend of mine who came to Glastonbury is also going to Bennicasim (sorry about the spelling!). A couple of days after Glastonbury he was stressing about not having any money and was talking about selling his things on Ebay. It suddenly occurred to me then that he could have found a lot of things to sell at Glastonbury two days earlier that had been left abandoned!

In general, we tried to do our bit and put our rubbish in bins and took anything that was in full working order home. Our rubbish was in the bin liners provided and then put in one pile. I would like to see some bins in the car parks though! When we got to the car park we used some wet wipes to cool off and asked the stewards if there was somewhere we we could put them. It looked like the most confusing question they had been asked all day and they looked a wee bit embaressed to say 'just put them on the floor', considering it didn't seem very Glastonbury!

The other thing we did year with regards to chairs was spend a little more on them, with the hope that we could take them home at the end as every year we have taken chairs, one out of our two has broken! It worked and we now have two nice chairs for next year.

ANyway, boycotting isn't the answer. Really the festival is doing a pretty good job in general with regards to the issues mentioned and really as others have said, it is the people who go who can make the difference. Unfortunately it isn't easy to make 137,500 punters all think the same way about rubbish et al.

They dont have the time, they are still packing up from the festival. BY the time they get round to looking at Efests all the gripey oaning threads will be long gone and they wil think it was a great festy again! Write to them yourselves. Individually!

I think KYJenni's point was that she intends to get in touch with GFL once she has more information on difficulties, and has come up with a detailed plan about possible solutions.

Since at least the early 90s, punters have asked "who is headlining". The big names on the pyramid lineup are the 'gateway drug' that leads people to the other stuff. The best of the other stuff is still there. In a lot of ways, it's even better.

With all the free tickets given to workers, surely a small team could be organised for this task. Maybe even an entrepreneureal spirit would be interested. If I had time I'd give it a shot. I have no idea how many tents in good order are left but even 500 tents at maybe £25 avge = a tidy sum.
