So was there an explanation as to its removal this year?

It seemed to me that it only drew decent crowds for a few acts i.e. Bragg.

I was also wonderign the other day if the giant wind sculpture will still be there without it? I do hops so

I didn't get the chance to check out the Left Field last year, was looking forward to giving it a look see this year so am rather gutted it's not here this time around. Hopefully it's back next year, my mum has told me it's one of the best areas of the site.

I agree 100%. Leftfield is the beating heart of the festival. Without it, it risks becoming "just another festival"

I am glad Billy Bragg is boycotting the festival this year. (obviously I am sad that we wont get to hear his music but you know what I mean)

I am very worried by the statement on the Glasto earth site

Talking frankly today, Michael said that the Left Field will be back in 2010, with the much-loved campaigning musician Billy Bragg playing a key role. "It'll probably be a different location... and maybe more than one venue".

Confidential?

"Oh no. The more people that know about this the better", said an on-form Michael, enthusiastically.

This to me point towards a watering down of the Leftfield if it is taking place at different locations. I am all for the message being promoted around the site but if there is not a place that is dedicated to the views of the left then it all looks to be an after thought.

Ohhh thanks for that - great to hear that it will be back. Just hope it is at least as good as before - not too hidden away. One thing I thought was great about Leftfield was its position and involvement of fairly large acts, attracted festie goers who might otherwise not have given it a thought.. just hope it does not lose this element and become a preaching to the converted kinda place. x

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
