Stone Circle pre-2000

Just having a look through the numurous videos on youtube of the stone circle in recent years n just wondered if anyone had any links to picture or videos of the stone circle in the 90's and late 80's.

Am a bit of a youngun (only been to the last two) n just curious as the whether the vibe/goings on up the stones has changed much over the years? Ive heard people say before that parts of the site could be slightly edgy at times before the superfence, more in keeping the vibe of a free festival or squat party, this true?

Was definately far more weird, and edgy. Used to be packed full of dealers and fire jugglers, and many more group campfires, flares, fireworks (remember them), and musicians. Lots of people crashing though the fence at the top where there was a traditionally known weak point. More of a relaxed chill area now, but still very enjoyable.

I remember in 93 or 94 sitting up in the stone circle, was a bit wilder defintely.I've got a really clear memory of two coppers walking up into the field. As soon as they walked through the entrance they were booed (really loudly and full on, not in a good natured way) till they left.

they didn't stay very long.

In the 80s we camped in the Kings Meadow. I seem to recall there being horse-drawn travellers' vehicles.

In 1987 I cycled there from Castle Cary station & just let myself in through a farm gate at the top of the hill ( I had a ticket as I was working in the Green field).

It was all very different when I was a lass ;)

It's definitely way more hectic nowadays. I still love to go there for at least one sunrise each year... but yes... it was much much more chilled in the past.

Hey ho... things change. Top of the Tipi flag hill was pretty chilled last year.. tho not as good of course.

    • Same here, when the lineup dropped it looked very strong but this year I’m considering more whether I buy tickets for enjoyment or fomo.   Speaking of that dilemma, I caved and bought a Turnstile Piece Hall ticket so I’ll see you there 😂
