Could've sworn they played Ambition too. :)

Sure it wouldn't have killed them to introduce the new songs (apart from Kingdom Of Rust) at the time, looking at that set list I guess it was The Greatest Denier and The Outsiders that stood out the most for me on first hearing then. :D

They did play Ambition! It was accompanied by the video of them playing in a disused church - very poignant moment for me last night.

It would be a very tough choice indeed between Doves or NY if both on the friday. NY complete legend (just ignore the not so good new ones about cars and buses), Doves on absolutely top form. Had the same problem in 2k when it was Doves or Bowie.

I think I'd choose doves over NY. I think their gig will be more fun. I would hate to ditch them for NY and he does one of his "difficult" sets.

Plus, I'd rather give them my support as the JP headliners tend to get pretty small crowds (or so I've heard)

Shit, john peel headliners?

Lets just hope that there are shit bands playing second from top on the rest of the main stages, but judging by the awesomeness that is the line up, things arn't looking hopefull. Lets hope michael eavis trys to keep the punters happy by having the fratellis or snow patrol or some other boring crap young "it" band that I couldn't really care less about.

Cheers,

BlackHole2006

Couldn't be arsed reading the whole thread but read the first few pages and thought i'd give them a go

I'd heard black and white town years ago enjoyed it but didn't think any more of it

after giving them another listen though i'll definitely be there to watch them, seem like the perfect festival band.

Must be said still prefer Elbow but they are both 'grower' bands and i have had more time for elbow to grow on me

Doves are possibly one of the more recent "bubbling under" acts.

It's a slow brew thing, like Elbow. An excellent back catalogue, unreletant work, the sort of consistency that keeps people on board. Not screaming fans, just growers. It builds.

They *could* explode this year. Personally I don't think they will, but they are getting a well deserved fan base now. I can't see that shrinking.

i think if it does come down to it im going to have to choose NY. seen doves 11 times now, and still have brixton booked for may and if i want it i have a vip invitation to the hexagon gig.

this might be my only chance to catch NY and as such i think i'll have go for him.

what would really swing it for me would be if Doves are announced for Latitude on monday (fingers crossed) as it would guarantee me a festival viewing of them - not the same as the big G but pretty damn good.

I'm with you on this Tugger2K - especially now its the JP tent - it gets packed for a half decent band so no chance of a good viewing. Although I've seen NY a couple of times over the years I doubt there will be many more opportunities to do so in the future. The only way I'll change my mind is if we can get a view of his set list - if he ignores Harvest and does just electric then its a yes for the doves.

    • That would be perfect!
    • If the festival was on this forecast for the end of the month would really raise the excitement levels 😊😉
    • I think their best chance is to get at Brazil. I though Casemiro in particular but the entire Brazil midfield was awful for the first half of that game, and if McTominay and McGinn press and run past them they've got every chance of getting the lead. You kinda assume Vini Jr and Raphinha will do something at some point in any game, but Brazil look like they're waiting for their stars to make something happen, instead of having a team plan.   I stand by my claim before the tourney that Morocco put 3 past Scotland, which suggests to me they need to nick a draw against Brazil.
    • The dance and pop acts seem to be going down more than the rest lol. Download has turned into 90s fest of the Midlands haha, but it's all silly music no one actually likes lol.
    • It was never going to be great was it, there is comments of Mickey Mouse all over socials lol which is very similar to Glastonbury.  Someone I know from RIP watched Welcome to the Jungle and left and they went saying they've got to see GNR. It was the only day not to see out as well.
