God no im more into bands like muse, oasis, arctic monkeys, Queens of the stone age ect. But i like classic rock such as led zep, beatles, guns n roses, stone roses, thin lizzy just never really took to bruce springsteen from what ive heard of his music so far.

Ill watch him however unless the prodigy or something is on the other stage :)

Red, give me a better Radiohead text!

I will battle you down...!

Lights out tonight

trouble in the heartland

Got a head-on collision

smashin' in my guts, man

I'm caught in a cross fire

that I don't understand

But there's one thing I know for sure girl

I don't give a damn

For the same old played out scenes

I don't give a damn

For just the in betweens

Honey, I want the heart, I want the soul

I want control right now

talk about a dream

Try to make it real

you wake up in the night

With a fear so real

Spend your life waiting

for a moment that just don't come

Well, don't waste your time waiting

CHORUS

Badlands, you gotta live it everyday

Let the broken hearts stand

As the price you've gotta pay

We'll keep pushin' till it's understood

and these badlands start treating us good

Workin' in the fields

till you get your back burned

Workin' 'neath the wheel

till you get your facts learned

Baby I got my facts

learned real good right now

You better get it straight darling

Poor man wanna be rich,

rich man wanna be king

And a king ain't satisfied

till he rules everything

I wanna go out tonight,

I wanna find out what I got

Well I believe in the love that you gave me

I believe in the love that you gave me

I believe in the faith that could save me

I believe in the hope

and I pray that some day

It may raise me above these

CHORUS

mmmmmmmm, mmmmm, mmmmmm

For the ones who had a notion,

a notion deep inside

That it ain't no sin

to be glad you're alive

I wanna find one face

that ain't looking through me

I wanna find one place,

I wanna spit in the face of these badlands

My problem with Bruce headlining Glastonbury is it takes up 4 days annual leave from work and a hefty chunk of change. I always try and make 4 or 5 shows on an average Bruce tour. What chance do I have leaving Glastonbury early enough Sunday morning to make Hyde Park, if as rumoured, he's playing there on the Sunday?

it'll be no problem, as long as you don't over-do your own excesses on the Saturday night.

There's not really any significant out traffic until Sunday late afternoon.

Fair enough. I was just pointing out acts that idolise him that are of our age group, not what you would necessarily like. You do sound like you could get into Bruce, just dont make the mistake that people like Red Eye make and listen to the "best of springsteen", or "bruce springsteen greatest hits" as they fail to focus on his best work. If you wanted to make an effort, then try Essential Bruce Springsteen or Live 1975-1985.

Im not expecting everyone to like him. In fact, worst thing about Springsteen being at Glasto will be that he is no longer our devoted fans little secret! Especially if his show is broadcast on the BBC (which i have no doubt that it will be).

hehehe, completely by chance, I watched that US version of the Office yesterday where Michael has some springsteen tickets to auction:

'Michael also says he has the big ticket item for the auction: a pair of primo, front-row Bruce Springsteen tickets. Michael, in fact, is such a fan of the Boss that he even plays some of his favorite Springsteen songs during the auction. And, well -- here, let Darryl explain:

"Mike gave me a list of his top 10 Springsteen songs. Three of them were Huey Lewis and the News" -- including "The Heart of Rock 'n' Roll," Michael's entrance music -- "one was Tracy Chapman, 'Fast Car,' and my personal favorite: 'Short People.'"

From Rolling Stone's Best of Rock 2008

Best Live Band: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/202...e_e_street_band

We're very on it right now," Bruce Springsteen crowed to Rolling Stone last fall about the music he was making with his E Street Band — and that was just in rehearsal. By the time he and his New Jersey troupers — saxophonist Clarence Clemons, pianist Roy Bittan, organist Danny Federici, guitarists Nils Lofgren and Steven Van Zandt, drummer Max Weinberg, bassist Garry Tallent, singer-violinist Soozie Tyrell and Springsteen's wife, singer Patti Scialfa — formally opened their 2007-08 tour in Hartford, Connecticut, on October 2nd, Springsteen, 58, was at a new peak in his performing life, combining the politically charged fury of his new album, Magic, with the joy of early-Seventies bar-wars songs like "For You" and "Thundercrack." He started almost every 2007 concert with the rock & roll preacher cry in Magic's "Radio Nowhere" — "Is there anybody alive out there?" — then stayed in resurrection gear all night, singing with deep authority and punctuating his vocals with barbed-wire Telecaster licks against the soul-train locomotion of his band.

Springsteen has been opening recent U.S. shows with vintage optimism and highway thrills: "Out in the Street," "Spirit in the Night" and "Thunder Road." But he is also telling poignant stories on this tour about the state of our faith in this nation, bundling new songs about America under siege ("Livin' in the Future," "Long Walk Home") with enduring tales of great escape ("The Promised Land," "Badlands") in inspirational segues that recall the narrative arcs of Springsteen's epic Eighties shows.

There was a jarring note in November when Federici left the tour (he is being treated for melanoma). But he returned for a night in March, joining the E Street Band in Indianapolis, underscoring the ties that bind this extraordinary group, now in its fourth decade. "For a lot of our fans," Springsteen said last year, "part of the thing is when the world's falling apart, we're not. That's why people come to us" — and why they will never stop.

If you are old enough to have seen PF live then I am a little surprised that missed out on the chance to see the early Springsteen tours - obviously your dislike is deep rooted - which is fair enough

Comparing PF and Springsteen live is like comparing chalk and cheese .. Bruce is more about excitement, energy and showmanship. PF are more about the spectacle the and the visual experience where the music ( when live in the later years) was almost secondary - it was means to an end rather than the end itself

I find both VERY satisfying in the same way as with more recent examples such as Faithless and Fleet Foxes ....so completely different but still satisfying as a musical experience

People were saying earlier in the thread about a 10 year old band that could shake things up a bit, I'd say Muse fits that bill.

As for Springsteen I've never realy got him. But I can't deny he's a major act and a huge draw. I'd never buy a ticket for one of his gigs but I'll go along and see what the fuss is about. If I don't like him I'll toddle off and see Bodger & Badger or something.

The only rumoured headliner I'll make a point of seeing is Blur.

Jens, fine words indeed and with verses that length it's no wonder the gigs take 4 hours :)

That said, the above lyrics are poor compared to almost anything the mighty Radiohead have produced and even compare poorly to Songbird by Oasis :lol:DUCK !!!!! B)

    • Another note, if I didn't mention the food in the arena for main stage is right at the back. Bands wise they do very well for but as a festival so far they pros are outweighed quite heavily currently for me.
    • On another note for RIP as an event, there is some good things but there are so many things people going to UK festivals would hate and how far behind they are.  Consistent network and water, beer and pretzel like food is brought around to buy in the crowds. Topping up on the wristband is good. The camping and food arrangement is not good, you really need cooking kit. Water points inside the arena are bonkers, water points in camping are a faff unless you are close enough in general camp. Merch stands are crazy. You MASSIVELY need to think about your lidl shop for camping and try and do it so you've one stop. It's definitely worth it getting to a camping shop here, picking up a rolley between your mates and stacking it for the walk back....lidl is cheap though, not hard getting in but Thursday queues getting in and into the camping is mad. You have to register first for a wristband as well leaving any bigger bags behind so pull to a side if only two and do it separately. I was joining a WhatsApp group for solo camp so went with the flow but I've learnt. Had it been me or just two my tent would have been down much quicker.  Big final note, I got a fresh and black 3 man from decathlon before coming and put in bigger suitcase with my airbed and sleeping bag...do this. Take a smaller option for your clothes. If you go to Munich first, book your train to Nuremberg as far in advance as you can....very important!....it hikes crazy. Probably bettee overall for baggage sizes to do BA both ways but you do then need to go back to Munich after too. Use the B&B hotel hbf the night before....its very nice, comfortable, cheap and within 10 minutes of the station which also serves as a transport stop 15 minutes from the registration.  Get up literally like 5am with everything back the night before, shower and go. Transport is free anyway for festival ticket holders during the duration.  Would I just choose to travel in each day and back to a hotel?, on the basis of sleep and getting accommodation cheap enough for 3 nights i might just do especially if I picked the ticket up early enough. It doesn't feel like a festival in a normal sense....unless you are in general yoi have to exit on the paths outside the camping to walk down and in which also applies for getting water so have a stock up. Toilets are in the camping.
