How Bad is Springsteen

Went to Reading last year for the first time and did have a great time. Metallica were a breathtaking headliner. Good to see an American artist simply play music about meaningful issues as opposed to some 80's has been rattling on about glory days and rivers :P

Of course I haven't. Why on earth would I want to pay £50-£60 to see someone who's music, to me, is one massive wet blanket. I have seen Pink Floyd live and there is no way whatsoever that BS would be better live IMHO :P

I have seen Pink Floyd in ALL their variations since 1966 and a couple before they were the Floyd

Whilst this is a digression from the original ( troll ??) thread i could not help myself on this one ...

..factually you are not quite correct . Gilmour was brought in to supplement the band as Syd was already beyond playing on a regular basis ... there was hope however that Syd would continue to write SOME of the Floyd's music ... but even in those days Waters was trying to be the major influence - that is way he is

Gilmour was approached and courted by Waters ...FACT

If Gilmour had not stood firm on the direction the Floyd were beginning to take under Roger then they would have gone long before Waters 'left'.

If Waters had got his way then PF would have been no more than a Roger Waters ego trip ...vis his solo production after he left

It is also worth noting how much of his own stuff he plays on his solo gigs - very little .... no one wants to hear it ...even though SOME of it has merit

Waters became almost insignificant without Floyd ( until he started playing 'his' Pink Floyd music) ... they continued and progressed without him

The Wall however will remain one of the truly magnificent works of all time ... and a true testament to his skills and vision

I love these threads cos everybody gets their knickers in a twist defending something that is subjective.

Any opinion is a personal point of view and not one that can be necessarily be taken by another.

So to say something is bad is pointless! there will always be somebody who thinks its good and a perpetual argument will start!

Except MMMBop Hanson.

I an Neutral about BS, take or leave, he is a tick in the box, but I am not sure that is something I will spend time on when I could be having a great time elsewhere. However if PF were playing then I would camp in front of the stage.

Its all relative to individuals and their preference.

Now if Radiohead where also playing, so we had PF BS and Radiohead, then I will that I have taken to many of something.

So the point to my ramble is

BS good

PF good

Radiohead Good

To many of something Bad.

Peace.

:P

I guess this is where we differ Red. I HAVE seen Springsteen and believe him to be one of the greatest live acts of all time.

I HAVE NOT seen Pink Floyd as they really do not do much for me at all, but I would never claim that they are bad or not worthy of playing a festival such as Glastonbury or even that they are inferior to Springsteen live as I can't possibly make that judgement.

All you can truthfully say is that you do not like Springsteen. To maintain that he is 'bad' is just winding people up for the sake of it. Quite successfully I may add!

Been lurking since I read the rumours on teletext. Saw Bruce for the first time in Cardiff last year and I never thought I get the chance to see him again so soon. The only thing that worries me is I'll be totally devestated if he doesn't play. I'm 26 which is old enough I guess.. this man is totally awe inspiring. Keeping my fingers crossed.

People were saying earlier in the thread about a 10 year old band that could shake things up a bit, I'd say Muse fits that bill.

As for Springsteen I've never realy got him. But I can't deny he's a major act and a huge draw. I'd never buy a ticket for one of his gigs but I'll go along and see what the fuss is about. If I don't like him I'll toddle off and see Bodger & Badger or something.

The only rumoured headliner I'll make a point of seeing is Blur.

Course it can, i've heard he puts on great live shows but his music is obverously way before my generation so i see it mainly being older people watching him.

I wil proberly end up watching him unless someone good is on the other satge though!!

    • mmm... i note there are several derogatory comments about this... not sure what it says about me, but i could spend a happy afternoon here...   Simple Minds, Deacon Blue and Texas are all great live bands.   hell, i'd even be drawn away from the bar to see James Blunt (if only for a bit of a nostalgia trip for his show on the Pyramid that i admit i hugely enjoyed).   still, with all that said - there's no way i'm going to the other end of the country for it...   🙂

    • Have a great festival to those that are going, I cant wait to get there tomorrow!
    • ah i get ya.. Yeah I hate festivals that have that barrier and front section. Roskilde is gonna be the same, which I'm not looking forward to navigating. Like you say, you end up missing other stuff having to get there dead early. Luckily there's not much we're arsed about on at Roskilde though so that wont be such an issue! hahaha
    • Not directly my expectation but my wishlist   - car seat headrest (it has been way too long these guys did Europe) - death cab for cutie - new constellations - interpol - bush - swimschool - suede - the haunted youth (should have been there this year) - flipturn   and oh yes Yumi Zouma can come any week, day, hour but this is a personal fetish with this band
