To me qotsa peaked with rated r which is an amazing album. Annoyingly in leeds they only played one song off it. How a band can write a songs as good as lost art of keeping a secret and not play them is beyond me.

I've seen QotSA 4 times: once with Nick & Mark at V, and 3 times big crowds after nick & mark's depature. The first time they were AMAZING, every other time they were awful. Personally I think they lack the power they had without nick and mark, at Reading they really needed a strong bass riff to cut through the limp distortion, but there was nothing so the songs lacked a back bone. I really can't understand why people think Queens are still great, they've lost everything even slightly unique about them. Each time I see them I try and approach it with an open mind, but every time I'm disappointed. They might be a better at their own gigs, but I don't particularly want to shed out money to see them after the poor shows at festivals.

i enjoyed queens this year, but for different reasons then i enjoyed them the last time they played reading. i just watched them this year thinking how much they oozed with coolness while playing. easily one of the coolest bands to play this year

I've said this before, but the crowd seemed to treat them as a support band for RATM rather than a co-headliner. The crowd's apathy killed their set. Which is a shame as I heard everyone was loving them in 2005.

And we didn't get that cool version of Go With The Flow that they did at Reading.

I've seen Queens 6 times (from years 1999 to present, so far at least once every UK tour)and every time it has been great - yeah Rated R is the nuts but it also what 7 -8 years old ? can't really expect them to play same songs every show. The only thing I miss is Lanegan's vocals as already mentioned Mikey is way better than Nick on bass (tho maybe I would have Troutman back as Joey plays to damn fast )

As for Reading headliners have to say most of these bands mentioned really don't interest me - I'm hoping for something more left field all these seem to predictable

Swap GnR (never understood their status) with Arcade Fire and you have my preferred headliners.

QoSA have always flattered to deceive in my opinion and peaked with Songs. Arcade Fire are up and up and haven't peaked yet as far as I am concerned. Next album might tell.

None of us know every band so don't beat yourself up about being a bit behind things.

Whoa,whoa.Back Arcade Fire if you will,but none of that anti Queens bullshit. Lullabies to Paralyze is one of the most underrated records I've ever heard.Not accessible,but shits all over Songs For The Deaf. Plus,your point about profile isn't strictly true,Burn The Witch and Little Sister are their two best known songs along with Go With The Flow and No-One Knows. Era Vulgaris wasn't great by their own high standards,but it still produced some top class moments(Make It Witchu?Misfit Love?River In The Road?They surely must be doing something for you)

We'll see with Arcade Fire.I like them,but I thought Neon Bible was awful in comparison with Funeral. They are definitely big enough to play second from top,which this debate stemmed from,not some bizarre 'Queens vs Arcade Fire' argument. Queens and Arcade are different bands doing different things,which I respect equally.

queens really should sort their live outfit out, i've only seen them at festivals so maybe it's different inside, but as a massive fan it's heartbreaking seeing the band playing a so so setlist and no1 giving a shit about it. And arcade fire arn't bad, but are ridiculously over rated, and the second album didn't follow up the hype imo (had a few good tracks, but funeral was a great album). I was slightly bewildered watching them at leeds last year, everyone seemed REALLY into it, as if they were the headliner (In all fairness, they played better than the headliner lol).

Anyways book the f**king prodigy next year! it's wrong that in order to go see them you have to go to v or t for the weekend (saying that leeds isn't far off them now)

I'm thinking that in perhaps keeping in the way of having a "classic" band headline the NME stage one of the nights (Manics, Ash, Primal Scream, Supergrass) perhaps Beck would be a good shout for next year? I'm quite sure he'd get a decent crowd and he was amazing last time he played in 03.

If not headlining the NME perhaps 2nd top on the main stage below the bands he played below in 2000 or 2003 Pulp or Blur? Oh well I can but dream.

Ian Brown will be the legendary NME headliner. I think so anyway. I hope so.

Also, a few weeks ago someone predicted AC/DC, Oasis and Green Day. That would be a pretty hefty set of headliners. King Monkey opposite AC/DC though, as Oasis and Browny have similar fanbases and I'd be gutted if he clashed with Green Day.

Unless they chose to play an American Idiot-heavy set.
