9 Miles in 1hr20, that's ok to be going on with.

9.5 miles in 1:28 after taking a wrong turning and getting lost for 10 minutes :P

But unlike you I've only got a half to get through, which is 2 weeks today. Will manage it but unsure if I'll be able to stay under 2 hours with that sort of time.

Amen to that, is there a weirder pain?

It's all about covering them in plasters!

Are any of you guys using Runkeeper on the iphone? I can safely say it has revolutionised my running.

My Runkeeper profile

I usually use sudacream (when you're as hairy as me, plasters are too painful!) but forgot last night...

Don't use Runkeeper but do use a combination of my forerunner 450 and fetcheveryone.

Gets a bit addictive :P

Wow that's good going nice one!

What is your next race?

Before London, I'm doing the Tunbridge Wells half (28th Feb) and the Hastings half (21st Mar).

May do the Paddock Wood half two weeks before the big day - will see how I feel at the time.

How about you?

  • 4 weeks later...
I'm a bit behind on schedule for Edinburgh too. The midweek runs of 4 or 5 miles a night are going well, but missed a few long runs on weekends. Need to get my act together...

What have you got planned coming up training wise?

I'm doing a speed session tomorrow, followed by 7 miles on weds, 8 miles on thurs, and 17 miles on sat morning.

I hope the weather improves!

I'm using the Hal Higdon Novice plan, so this week sees the joys of 2 x 4 miles, one 6 mile and 12 miles on the weekend. I might bump up the 4 milers to 5 though to make up a bit of lost ground.

I'm using treadmills for the midweek runs to take some strain of my dodgy knees, but it seems to make the long road runs harder. Ah well, keep plodding away fella.

My training for Edinburgh took a knock last week with a nasty cold.

This really is a tough time of year to train for a marathon.

Apart from that, I'm now into week 7 of my 18 weeks of training - running 3 times a week, and cross training 2 nights a week. So far I have managed to sustain 9 min/miles for all my long runs (12 miles this weekend) which is promising.

I got through the post my running vest from Macmillan Cancer Support yesterday. Made me realise how close the big day is now...

Must remember to go for a few training runs with the top on...

I am hoping mine will arrive soon.

I have resumed training this week hooray! I did an 11 mile run on Sunday and averaged 8.57 a mile so that was ok.

Am no longer holding out hope of finishing in under 4 hours but I will get as close as I can.

Am doing the Silverstone half on Sunday, the things people will do for a weekend away eh...

Yes, Edinburgh Marathon will be my first. 4 hours 15 is my target and that's going to be pretty tough.

Got the Inverness Half this weekend but I'm not running as quickly as I wanted to be, due to having a cold a couple of weeks ago.

Is it Edinburgh you are doing? What are you targets?

I am running the London Marathon at the end of April. I was hoping to do it in 4 hours or less but have had to have the last 3 weeks off training due to picking up a knee injury. I have rejoined my training programme and am just going to do as well as I can now as aiming for the same time would be unrealistic. I hope to get under 4:30 though.

Knocked out 7 miles on the treadmill earlier at 8:28 a mile average, was doing fartlek training though so not a realistic reflection of my average pace.

Snap. Except i'm suffering from shin & calf problems.

Still aiming for sub 4 hrs though. I will be soooo down if I put myself through all the training and race day again only to do worse than in my first outing.

What was your first outing time? (apologies if this has been mentioned before, I am rubbish at going back through threads..)

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
    • I was fully prepared (waterproof jacket, extra pair of socks, foldable umbrella), but after four hours in the rain (from Geese through Oklou to Florence Road), it was just too much. Already at the hotel, let's hope tomorrow's better.
    • It’s rare that I watch question time, but I almost felt sorry for Kenyon, he seemed like a guy just brought off the street which effectively is what he was, made worse by the fact Burnham and the Tory guy were very strong debaters. I think Burnham was very aware not to go too hard on Kenyon and risk him getting sympathy, in fact he pretty much ignored him.
