Japanese Voyeurs - The entire Yolk album on repeat. It's as if post-90s Seattle has descended from heaven onto these grunge deprived ears of mine. The angels have been busy.

I stumbled upon them at a festival a while ago and I've been looking for to the release of the album ever since, it's a good album but it just hasn't caught me the same way as when I've seen them live though.

I listen to it on my Ipod which is how I listen to 95% of music, truth be told I put more value on music being live than recorded. I completely agree on her voice, that for me is the major hook in the music and perfectly matches the lyrics which are also brilliant. Apart from Emily Haines (from Metric) I can't think of a better female band vocalist to emerge in years.

It was at The Camden Crawl, the main reason I caught them was they were on before Killing Joke. I seen them a couple of more times since at Soni and at the album release show they did in Hoxton.

I'm mainly listening to The Binges, Motorcylce Song is an instant classic ; and the guitarists are hot Japenese sisters, so what more do you want? Apologies if that's sexist.

I'm also listening to a band called Otherside. Very cool hard rock unsigned band from Vegas. Check out "Bloody Knuckles, Broken Glass" and "Has anyone seen my God damn dignity". sounds a bit like System or Pantera, that sort of thing, with a few more stadium rock type hooks in the chorus.

I banged on about a band called The Steelwells a while ago, a wilco-esque outfit I guess, if there is such a thing as Wilco-esque, and still they are doggedly hanging onto my playlists even though they've only released a six track EP.

Oh, another band worth a mention is Foxhole Radio. Sound a bit like early 90s Tom Petty to these ears. I think you can download there EP free from a link on their facebook page. Signwriter is a very cool song, and there is a tiny of bit country twang in it.

Speaking of country, I'm still listening a lot to a recently rediscovered old favourtite of mine, BlackHawk. Sure can Smell the Rain and That's Just about Right are wonderful, if you like that sort of thing.

Other than that it's been the usual mix of big-tent action. Woof. Plenty of Kanye and a fair bit of solo Gilmour action of late.

    • Hasn't Farage been fighting for 30 years for Britain to leave the world?
    • Lower league football has this more regularly, no? Quite often I'll see League 1/2 sides have signed a whole new 11 every summer.    Admittedly, changing the entire squad is different.
    • Oh yeah I'd forgotten about their mad scramble to get back from LA to Glastonbury. Though at least there you can blame multiple flight cancellations. I do agree though that it's fair to ask why you'd risk a similar sh*t show.
    • So who's got a good rain dance in the locker, then? Now we're in August the weather watchers can come out of hiding.    Already having flashbacks to last year (the dust cloud of doom at the crossroads by the Courtyard entrance).   Also got to be looking sketchy for the fire/fireworks on the Sunday. Might be a controversial opinion but wouldn't mind it - the fencing annoyance isn't worth the 10 mins of 'oooohhh, aaahhhh', plus the raining of hot embers last year!
