Yeah my hairdressers sister overheard a conversation in a kebab shop in Bristol which seemed to point towards a fusion of Morrisey and Pete Docherty called the "Smithertines" who would also be playing.

Can't wait myself <_<

Ok, not all missus go shopping.

Anyway just adding my thoughts to the subject here. Some people seem to want to be critical but don't like it when someone begs to differ. Sorry, next time I'll just agree with everyone. That would be far more interesting.

We will be missing Bella this year, spent tonight looking about for an alternative for August and have found Solfest which is looking very tempting.

Having been up to Bella the past 3 years, and having a great time each year I go.. I feel it is time for a change.

Never been to Solfest but hear alot of good stuff about it from people on here and reviews and sounds ideal for us -

  • Great line up announced so far which appeals to us both

  • Family friendly with kids/adults workshops

  • Works out cheaper for us overall

  • You can park your car next to your tent

  • Allowed to take your own drink/food on site

  • 24 hour licence

  • Non commerical festival

So we will be getting our tickets on Monday

Probably return to Bella next year, but as they say.. a change is good <_<

Paul,

Shame you are going to Englandshire to get crocheted instead of going to Bella.....I'll miss you mate..maybe we will see you at Loop?

Anyway, you better inform the Black Isle Brewery and who ever makes cider up there that you are not attending -- grrrr, they'll put the bloomin prices up too to compensate!

OK go to Solfest with my blessing, just dont come back with long hair calling everyone 'man'.... and going on about the trees and shit!

Aw, Paul we'll miss you. Better find a suitable lieutenant to organise the e-fests camp (I know, I'm a (camper) van (wo) man but the tent-tastic need you!). My best mate's sis and family go to Solfest every year and love it - def. good for kids. Go see Misty's Big Adventure. They are fabulously unhinged - you'll hate them

Anyhoo, back to topic. For the Bellas I've been at, headliners have been: 2005 - The Proclaimers and Alabama 3, 2006 - Embrace and Echo & The Bunnymen, 2007 - Magic Numbers and James. 2008 is looking like Scouting for Girls and The Waterboys. Mixed bag: "bleurgh!", "meh", "uh?" and "yesssssssss".

Any Miss Marples know anyone else to keep us (understandably but depressingly - especially if you should be about 6 weeks from the Skye Festival <_< ) fixating on the 2 acts announced?

x

No-one is asking you to agree but your first post could have been written by the promoters of the festival.

I don't WANT to be critical and if you look back at the very start of the thread you'll see that I (and lots of others) praised last years event to the hilt.

My problem this year is the strength of the headliner(s) which are very weak. You may be a SFG fan but they don't merit top billing at any festival. No problem with a big variety of bands but I do expect a half decent headliner

If they want to turn this into a pop festival then that's fine, just let me know before I buy tickets so I can make another choice.

I hope when the full line up is announced I'll be content with the bands on offer but if SFG is the calibre of band then it's my last Bella.

I know everyone enjoyed Bella last year and I reckon they will this year. I'm not a SFG fan. I have seen them but not a fan. I'm probably a much a fan of them as you are <_<

You can never tell . . . I am still kicking myself for getting carried away with the "let's go see Embrace on the main stage" a couple of years ago when I could have been watching the genius that is Stephen Fretwell. Bella is always full of surprises, you never know you may be pished on the Friday singing "she's so luverlyyyyyyyyyyy"

    • Rumours are it's called The Lost Tour. In the US in September. Ireland in November (so UK+Europe a good bet around November/early December).
    • Hey guys, is there a group going for any solo y not goers this year?? I couldn’t miss out once I saw the acts but it’s just me and would be great to meet some others:))
    • After deciding to abandon the festival, here's a few of my thoughts (mostly negative tbf).    On the positive side - was it just me or were there a few more urinals than last year? Seemed to help the queues at the loos a bit from what i saw. Plus they had at least had some foresight and had a few more covered areas in the VIP areas.    Now on the negatives.  The weather was admittedly pretty crap but it wasn't apocalyptic. How the actual f**k are bits of the main stage falling off in those conditions?  Then the communication was awful, there's a load of people who left the site because they were told by security guards/other personnel that there would be no more acts on the main stage this evening.  You have an app Primavera, use it! Yes, there's a shitload going on I'm sure but communication with the festivalgoers should be one of the top priorities. You failed.    And I'm not usually somebody who buys into the whole "oh this is hugely unsafe and it's lucky people weren't hurt" narrative, but all the above led to movements of people that were genuinely unsafe.  Evacuating Mordor entirely (again... Why???) and then having a horde of people trying to get in because they thought they were going to Massive Attack was insane.  And given a lot of people basically abandoned ship around 10.30pm the crush at both the exit to the festival and the entrance to the Metro was pretty dangerous.   Conditions happen, most people will get that....but the contingencies have to be better.
    • You'd think that something like bad weather was in the basics of festival planning. After the shitshow of Madrid, you'd think they'd learnt their lesson, apparently not...
    • Same. Shower and back out in a taxi!
