i think this is going to be one of the reading performances that will go down to be famous, hopefully (rather scarily considering what was going on a few pages back) mentioned in the same kind of tone as nirvanas now famous set, although its scary that there will be a lot of people at reading who have never heard pearl jam.. no doubt most of whom am my age and will of course say stuff like "the kooks rock! no pearl jam we want the kooks to headline!" which will just prove my generation is stupid... Also, my friend, who has a pretty extensive musical knowledge it should be noted, hadn't heard pearl jam until they were played on the radio as one of the reading headliners, how is it possible??? well thats the end of that, and it looked for a while like it was going to be tag team wrestling olivavu and cultseeker vs.

Pearl Jam don't appeal to the youth of today because they don't whore themselves in the media. They don't do exactly as the record company tells them to, they play the music game by their own set of rules.

I find it hilarious when I hear kids that have blatantly never heard a Pearl Jam song in their lives slag them off, it's ridiculous.

Pearl Jam were one of the most important bands of the 90's and they're still making excellent music today, which is testament to the quality and evolution of the band.

I'd like to see Coldplay or Kaiser Chiefs write one good song...letalone hundreds...

of the people im camping with - theres 15/20 of us, i think theres about 2 people who actually know anything bar 'alive'. kind of sucks, but ill let them enjoy maximo horrific park while i have the time of my life

as for why people havent heard of pearl jam - like you said 'your mate has a extensive musical knowledge (if your friend had - they'd have known about PJ in the first place)' its because they dont sell themselves out to the media, they just get on with it without any major press/publicising much in the same way as say tool do. its very very rare that any uk radio station will play any pearl jam - i believe that 'world wide suicide' was played a few times, and they managed to release there latest album without any major press and it sold pretty well over here.

i really dont expect a young pearl jam crowd - full of say scene indie/emo kids, which should be great. like its already been mentioned - im guessing a lot of people will just be there for pearl jam and no 1 else, first festival appearance since roskilde is historic in itself, which imo is probably the biggest festival catch in the last say 10 years pretty easily

you'll be suitably upset i imagine when you see my fifteen year old self with my 16 year old friends at pearl jam having the times of our lives, im truly sorry.. and, there are plenty of people with musical knowledge who dont know pearl jam, i dont know if you remember when pearl jam were announced, but the board was flooded with people asking for songs and such, so im sure not all of them have no musical knowledge,

    • Playing a bit of devils, isn't that the case for any act? If you csn get a bigger sub or or 3rd etc the next will play lower. Tbh they would probably be best headlining second so in the kinda in between slot, that would be better. Get GC on second and Avril on main subbing Friday for Blink. But I'd expect it would be Avril sub and GC second another day.

    • We head out in the morning. Couple of nights in New York then up to Boston. Enjoy the games lads and hopefully we get some great football to take our minds off the whole shitshow off the pitch.
