Perhaps it could be that I find the majority of new bands boring and uninspiring..?

Perhaps I don't identify with what they're saying?

I like so many bands/artists and am always hoping that something comes along that is worth listening to. It just doesn't happen often at all these days.

Musical taste is not a choice...

i know i'm fairly new on the boards, and so can't really comment on the clash of the titans (but im going to anyway) but surely, after all this talk about olivavu shouldnt criticize people for their musical taste, the second he doesn't, you ask him why! hmmm.

Yes...the enjoyment!!

I find the majority of new music to be a combination of contrived, boring, repetitive, easy and so many other negative traits that are too many to list.

Coldplay, for instance, have nothing remotely deep to say lyrically or musically. And worst of all...they're 'singer' cannot sing to save his life.

Look a bit harder then numbnuts. Seriously for every Coldplay there is a White Stripes. For every Franz Ferdinand there is a Muse. For every Hard-Fi there is a Rakes.

And that's only the big bands, never mind the million and one great bands that play this fair nation every week (admittedly I'm in Leeds so I'm a little spoilt) in venues up and down the country. Go see some local bands, go online and try something, get some recomendations from some mates. If you really care about music you'll find it.

Exactly that man! Therein lies the problem - for every thing Olivavu says that I agree with, his labelling of others as having bad taste completely voids his argument.

He assumes a standpoint from which his taste somehow has more validity than anyone else's, which is clearly complete and utter balls.

see this needle...a see my hand...

drop, drop, dropping it down...oh, so gently...

well here it comes...i touch the plane...

turn me up...won't turn you away...

spin, spin...spin the black circle

spin, spin...spin the black, spin the black...

spin, spin...spin the black circle

spin, spin...whoa...

pull it out...a paper sleeve...

oh, my joy...only you deserve conceit...

i'm so big...a-my whole world...

i'd rather you...rather you...than her...

spin, spin...spin the black circle

spin, spin...spin the black, spin the black...

spin, spin...spin the black circle

spin, spin...whoa...oh...

you're so warm...oh, the ritual...when i lay down your crooked arm...

spin, spin...spin the black circle

spin, spin...spin the black, spin the black...

spin, spin...spin the black circle

spin, spin...

spin the black circle

spin the black circle...

spin, spin...

spin, spin...

The Rakes are f**king awful..!

The White Stripes are alright, but they're hardly a Blind Melon, Rage Against The Machine, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Longpigs, Filter, Nine Inch Nails, Faith No More, Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones etc, are they?!

As for Muse, well they're all that either...

Surprised you weren't sure deutsche Harru, it's probably their biggest hit in the U.K. I haven't heard it for a long time, but I always thought it had poo lyrics, even back in 1994. It kind've got me thinking though, if these lyrics are worth quoting, allow me this brief detour:

Is it sex, or is it love? [4x]

You got it on the side

A little one night thing

I thought it over and this time I will forgive you

Well I'm not letting go

But don't forget I know

You made your bed and she was in it, no no no

What she's gonna look like with a chimney on her? [4x]

Well I'm not blaming you

But she's still hanging around

And she's so crazy, I'll tell ya now I just don't trust her

She thinks she's right on time

But I think she crossed the line

And I'm ready for the ride, I'm ready if it's party time

What she's gonna look like with a chimney on her? [3x]

Is it sex, or is it love? [5x]

Personally, I think these are deeper, more interesting lyrics than those of 'Spin The Black Circle' - but then again i have bads taste :P Imagine the hours of fun we could have deconstructing the chimney bit

Problem is mate, that every band listed there is contrived non-sense.

I get you're point though. I've been reviewing local bands for ages and have witnessed the explosion of the Sunderland scene from it's infancy. It was/is only the bands that fit the bill that are picked up. Other, more decent and original/organic acts are left to suffer the inevitable break of non-immediate success. This is a very real state of affairs and truly rotten. It is also a very real reflection of the state of new music in general.

    • Robyn hasn't sold out standing tickets at CO-OP live, wonder how many are left and if it'll have cheap tickets near the date.
    • Is anyone selling a medium camper van parking spot - I would love to buy it off you!   Bought our tickets a while ago and have since found out gf is pregnant and will be 7 months by festival! Luckily family have just bought a camper van we can borrow so we can still come along but… the medium parking spots have sold out 😞
    • Sure enough I did finish the Brosnan Bonds. Goldeneye is good but I think might be overrated by some Bond mega-fans, The World Is Not Enough is ok but nothing more than that and Die Another Day is just wild. I didn't hate Die Another Day like some have but its basically a wacky sci-fi film with Bond movie clothes.
    • Monaco comes across to me as something that's great for just watching people driving around, especially this year as it feels like this is a track where they can actually push compared to other circuits where superclipping ruins it, but where the cars seem to have outgrown it.   Though tbf Formula E has had decent Monaco races recently so maybe its a sign of car development philosophy being a factor.
