Download 2026

Seems a lot of people are happy about the bookings the year they finally get someone else in charge of it all. Fresh bookings, whether you like them or not is kinda a 50/50 but alo a fair few repeats from the last few years. The headliners all being UK exclusives is pretty normal, that's what Download do. I dont think it'll do loads for the older Download crowd but there is an obvious effort to move away from that. Everyone knows who GNR and Bizkit are that are young as well and the oldies have certainly seen Guns of they wanted to recently and since coming back in 2017.

None of those is a negative post I'll add either.

I guess I could be classed as the older crowd. I first went to Donington in 1995, returned in 1996 and was at Ozzfest 2002 before DL got up and running. From that perspective there is a lot to look forward to on this bill that covers my early teens (GNR/Cypress Hill/Cavalera/Tom Morello/COC), my late teens early twenties (LB/LP), stuff from going to Reading and VFest in the late 90's/early00's (Feeder/Ash). Plus tons of great new bands I love and more established bands from the last 20 years. An extremely well put together bill IMO.

Yup, some years back I'd have been up for it. I think Feeder live though aren't the strength they were and Ash is kinda done. For people who haven't seen them recently though it'd be a good hit.

Feeder are great live, saw them two weeks ago on the comfort in sound tour and they’ve still got it.

Fair. I saw them a couple of years back and they were just going through the motions a bit. Catfish gig I think, YM@6 and Catfish definitely upstaged them and I wasn't that in for ym@6 by then.

Architects won't drop down to second stage from sub, Baby Metal are bigger now than when they last played 4th and played The 02 arena....jesus realising how many bands back from 23 snd 24 they have got. They would be second stage headliner 3rd down easy. They might even be 3rd down and INK second stage headliner. It's a shame your Feeder Sunday isn't on though as them before LP would have been nice at least vs one of the other 3 options.

I'd guess Guns, Architects, Trivium with Halestorm on second like Within Temptation were.

Could be the stage size tbf. If they headline the tent everyone will be up for it and it’ll be bagging. Maybe they’ll get a bit lost on one of the bigger stages these days.

I think the lineup is pretty strong. Not that bothered on the headliners but the undercard is great. They really need to sort that second stage out though if they’re putting bands like bad omens on. It’s not big enough for large bands. Anything behind the sound desk is so congested with people walking through and the sound is so quiet.

The more I think about the lineup, the more I'm realising what a good job they've done with it.

Even if they're not fully my cup of tea, they've booked arguably the biggest modern names in hard rock and metal (Bad Omens, Architects, INK) a couple of old reliable acts (Behemoth, Mastodon, Feeder) and some interesting, more abstract bookings (Blood Incantation and Cypress Hill) and thats just the logo acts.

Headliners aren't amazing in my opinion (even if I'll be down front for Limp Bizkit), but I'm honestly struggling to find the negatives with this.

That did contribute to it I feel. They came on just seeming not bothered like they greed to it but thought better of it later. Of course every band can have an off day. It would be good if Avalanche clashed with main so they could be the alternative

This was my thoughts exactly. They've doubled down on Download 2.0, and fair play to them, the effort made to move away from the past lineups since 2023 is night and day. The exception seems to be headliners. If there's an opportunity to book a GNR/Slipknot, it's a huge live nation event, it's going to happen, but the strength in the undercard was something no one expected.

So when do we start speculating on the next drop of names? 😄 I can see Slayer doing Reign In Blood joining the line up.

At a guess we have one sub to come. Either volbeat under GNR or a day to remember under limp bizkit or linkin park. I'm sure I saw elsewhere that bad omens, trivium and architects are second stage headliners.

To be honest all headliners and undercard names included are acts that payed 2023 and before. The difference is not repeating all the classic rock acts constantly but you are getting a lot of repeats from 23 and even 24 in place.

If that's correct im guessing it's due to bad omens and architects wanting the bigger shows. Cypress Hill, Halestorm, Electric Callboy, INK, Baby Metal and Pendulum I think that's your subs and 3rds then as none of those are going to play below 3rd down or equivalents. I think Pendulum 3rd down again instead of second stage is missing a trick to get it darker. I like them but its a lost set that early. Cypress Hill and Callboy wouldn't be strong subs but Cypress Hill have the rare factor and Callboy are getting past the point of what shoes 3rd down bands do, they would have suited second stage well even as not a fan of them. With Skindred also apparently still to come I don't see the addition of anyone else further up. Volbeat didn't exactly pull a big crowd last time and they may just want a break from the Volbeats, Megadeths etc

    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
