So far my discoveries from the line up announcements:

- Fat Dog - Really creative, it's doing its own thing, can't really put them in a box. My favourite "unknown" band for me

- I Hate Models - Haven't really payed much attention to him so far, but I really like his "brutal", energetic style

- Bedouin - it's definitely something I see myself chill out to at 2am

- Hannabie - I have liked Baby Metal but I even prefer this compared to that. A bit more crazy

Hermanos Gutiérrez - I think this is something that I will enjoy if it's on a really small, intimate stage. Two guitars, no singing, interesting concept and sounds really good, they are talented.

- Ecca Vandal - She is a bit all over the place, but has really catchy songs, I wanna head what her new album, I assume there will be one, since her last and only one is from 2017? Surely she will release on for the tour?

It seemed clear to me they are trying to move away from that with pop rap and dnb. From the 1st announcement.

so the 6 headliners are;

6th aug: charli xcx

7th aug: Shawn mendes

8th aug: a$ap rocky

9th aug: anyma

10th aug: post malone

11th aug: chapel roan

To me, Rocky is the outlier here. And depending on the court case outcome, could even be a cancellation in the future weeks. Doesn’t seem like a smart move in my opinion. It also leaves a bitter taste in my mouth given what he did and I wouldn’t want to see him

Yeah but they literally hinted rock n roll for the announcement. So weird.

Opinion poll: what do you think, which day would sell the most, based on recent lineup?

6th or 11th, those girls are super hot, so I think one of them rules the fest. Charli has been wanted at Sziget for years, so I think that gives her an edge.

I will say this, it is a really great lineup if you are not big on Rock. Now, looks like most of us here on this forum ARE into Rock, so to us this lineup looks uneven. But I think the target audience they are shooting for will really like these headliners.

What is the target audience they are aiming for though?

all I’ve heard so far is under 21 year olds.

I am personally not a big rock fan and I would not be interested to see bands like Nine inch Nails or Idles at Sziget. I don’t mind them getting booked but I’m not going to see them. However bands like Foo fighters , Green Day or Linkin Park are big names which anyone can go to see and have a good time, without knowing many songs.

Even the headliners seem mis-matched to me . The only one I would actually be interested to see is Shawn mendes , because I didn’t see him before. I like a lot of pop music , Lorde , Marina, Girl in red, Tove lo etc. But I am not a fan of Charli or Chappell. I find the songs and live performance rely on too much auto tune (especially Charli xcx) . But that is just my opinion and I know they are a huge sensation right now .

Most people who like Charli, will like Chappell . But they are on opposite ends of the festival. And I doubt that everyone who likes those names are also interested in Post Malone , Asap and Anyma . Maybe Shawn mendes. But selling the 6 day passes will be a struggle for sziget this year.

To me it feels more like they are trying to sell 6 individual concerts than a festival. I’m not surprised this is the direction they have chosen to take as it will possibly be the best economic decision but it doesn’t make for a strong line up on the whole.

I’m using the 10th and 7th as a example

but I’m guessing there missing 3 or more big undercard acts which i assume can be bands like Snow patrol , Empire of the Sun etc,

looks like

8th

9th and 11th are missing a few big undercard names so I’m not giving up hope on some rock names yet

Could be reading into it too much.

if you also look at the line up, Anyma is not listed as the main stage. Which makes you wonder whether they are truly building an outdoor EDM dedicated stage for artists like anyma , Armin etc. But then why would the other stage be called main stage? That’s what I don’t seem to understand at the moment

I think you are the one reading too much into something 🙂 Because Chappell also doesn’t have the Main Stage written inder her. It’s just a mistake

About the rock bands they stated they Will add some almost in every local social media Page. I don't think they are saying It and then not doing It. It would be a bad image for the festival.

Plus:

1) As a lot of people in this forum are noticing: some days definetely lack sub headliners. It would be Logic to add rock bands as they promise. Probably medium ones, but still...

2) The lineup so far Is mostly an under 21 lineup, which makes me think they are probably selling a lot of U21 tickets which are less expensive (= lower profit ). Besides, people that Age usually are students and so they have less Money to spend on the site. They Need tò attract also older people Who usually are more into rock

3) There Is probably a further step up in ticket prices: they Need to save a good announcement to push people to buy After that.

I'm not going to lie - I'm really happy with the headliners. Post Malone, Charli XCX, Chappell Roan are really strong names, and it is really a comeback from the 2024 line-up. Post Malone will go on a stadium tour this year + Coachella headline, Charli XCX basically created a massive fanbase and a really strong brand, style and trend with brat. Chappell Roan is one of the most interesting pop-acts now. Anyma obviously was picked because of the new main stage. I'm happy for Shawn Mendes because he is a strong pop artist and there's ASAP Rocky who is highly likely to be canceled if he is sentenced at the end of the trial, but as a hip-hop fan, I think it's a stronger name and I heard several of my friends that they want to go to the festival just for him (maybe he will release his album finally this year).

We can argue about the lack of rock music (they will announce it in March or April I think) or about that "this is not the festival I loved before", but the festival needs to evolve and aim at the younger audience, because most of the ticket sales and revenue come from them. In my opinion, it's one of the stronger line-ups in years, and I'm really looking forward to it (and if they bring Twenty One Pilots, I will be the happiest person on Earth).

I vow to buy every member of this forum a beer on the day Twenty One Pilots play. I'm confident my money is safe.

IF they do announce some more rock/indie bands I can't see them being of that status. I think we'll get acts like The Vaccines or Amyl and the Sniffers (not these exact acts, but ones of a similar sized popularity).

I'm so dissapointed about the lineup and the way that the organizers go.

Once this festival was so timeless, so unique, so cheap, so full of cool adventure individuals.

Now its only a real commercial colorful Ballon with nothing in it. Its a shame and I really hope that I can find an alternative festival with the spirit of freedom, fun & quality...

Sorry für my bad mood and that l make the festival bad. But for me there is only a value of 10% of the past in it.

Times are changing, so I have to do it for myself.

I hope that we get more quality music and diversity soon.

Interesting that there's only 55-60 festival tickets available on ticket swap. A lot less than this time last year.

Now is that down to the lineup being more pleasing? Regulars going elsewhere? People being more savvy and not buying tickets until the lineup is done.

From a UK standpoint, flights from Heathrow are still very low. Usually the cheapest pre Christmas.

I’ve only been to sziget one time in 2019 and we bought tickets early (pre Christmas!). However , in that year, Florence / 1975 / ed Sheeran / foo fighters and other strong names on the undercard were announced right from the beginning .

Im still undecided about my choice for a festival this summer but with sziget I certainly wouldn’t buy anything in its current state until the line up is closed , I imagine it’s the same for a lot of people.

Positive reactions to individual headliner announcements on Instagram:

Anyma - 2,630

Charli - 6,047

Post - 8,181

Shawn - 10,997

Chappell - 11,665

Rocky - 11,904

Line-up update poster - 23,191

I guess that question that provokes is, I wonder how many of these will actually result in tickets sold.

    • I think a Take to the Skies set would probably be the thing that gets me to go to this. Couldn't give a f**k whatelse is on there if that happens.   Feel like Knocked Loose might be too big by that point.
