True but I remember previous times there have been surprise guests that you don't know about til the day.

I'm surprised at the road they've gone down, and it's relying hugely on Sam Fender and the rapper combo to sell

Sam fender will 100% sell out though at the price of £38 for a ticket, and fast.

The booking process doesn't seem to indicate you'll need to actually provide an address, just put your postcode in at the start to access the tickets. Probably deliberately vague but surely billing address should be matched up?

good point, hmm. Sure I used a Luton one previously years and it was still an absolute scrum

Gracie in Australia a week before and then nothing in Europe until a month later… Seems very unlikely?

As I say, I didn't look at any tour dates for it.

If it's Olivia I will be making my way up there for it even though I'll have been at Slam Dunk the day before. Even if the lineup isn't all that, I'll have a day in Liverpool and see Olivia for £34

Who going to be annconed tonight and tomorrow

There aren't announcements tonight. They are just playing the artists on the 6pm show who have been announced this morning.

Final announcement tomorrow 8-9am on BBC radio 1.

I've never seen Olivia and it's not on my absolute must-see list, but if she gets announced for big weekend , I'm definitely going. If it's Tate or Charli, I'll probably give it a miss.

Part of me was thinking they might book the sweat show with Charli / Troye, but he doesn't seem to be around at all either.

Big weekend has been one of those festivals in the past where artists travel especially to the venue just for the festival. Whether that is still the case, I'm not sure, and could limit ability for international bookings like Olivia.

Someone said earlier in this threat exclusives don't count for big weekend, but even if that's the case, it would be unlikely anyway.

I'm going turn down my expectations a notch and expect Tate or Charli headlining.

I'm doing the exact same, Anyone different will be a nice surprise. Can't imagine anyone the scale of Olivia on this years lineup.

Sounds like sam fender is the bigger of the headliners this year

Yeah if it's Tate or Charli I'm more likely to drive up for the Friday if anything but it won't be a must do the day before my main event next year that weekend. Last year they booked C&S and Raye for Friday and Saturday with a huge headliner Sunday. Fender is bigger than both of those other acts last year so I dont think there is a money problem.

I think internationally Raye and Fender are on a very similar level, but in the UK Fender is obviously huge.

The Sunday did have Coldplay/Vampire Weekend doubling up last time though.. and also a strong undercard.

On subject of coldplay, was it known or rumoured before the event last year that they would be playing, or was it genuinely a big surprise on the day? I wasn't following last year as I didn't plan to go..

They were the billed headliner. But in terms of before the announcement, no I don't think so. Although we were warned by Greg on instagram the night before that the name was big and was going to make tickets hard to get.

I guess the difference is coldplay is UK based and Olivia Rodrigo USA based...

Totally, as i said above I have been told that artists dont get paid or dont get paid much so it relies on an artist, who is typically around and on a promo cycle, that is willing to give up their time for radio playlisting. Coldplay have always struck me as 2 things, 1) Understanding of the power radio still has and 2) Willing to do things to honour the journey they were on to get them there. Chris was mentioning throughout the performance that its a big thanks for Radio 1 supporting Coldplay since day 1. 2024 wasnt their first radio promo event and wasnt their last as they did Capital Jingle Bell Ball later that year too.

I dont get that same vibe from a lot of the American artists, I think them and their teams would deem it too much work for the payoff.

I would definitely take that over Tate Mcrae or charli.. but is she around?

Shes not in Europe, would have just finished USA tour before starting Australia early July.

Would be a fun time but cant see it personally. Although she does do radio promo events, proven by her headlining Jingle Bell Ball the other night after Coldplay

The only reason I thought Kesha is possible is because she's playing in Manchester on May 30th.. which is about a week later, even if she's not usually an artist which playlists on Radio 1.. it's possible I guess.

Could even play without headlining nowadays, she's only at the Albert hall which is tiny

Cmon Katy Perry 😂 nothing like belting teenage dream out loud

That would be amazing, I'd be going for that day for sure. That said I'd prefer Sunday has nothing for me, can try for Saturday (and failing that Friday) and see Stereophonics in Warrington on the Sunday!
