Pretty much, Chelsea recoup most of the wages paid.

What's interesting is that at Dortmund, you could really see his pressing, running up and down the line, doing a lot of aggressive work that would exhaust the full-back opposite him. His final output was largely based off playing against tired defenders, which made the "lazy" accusations by Ten Hag seem weird. Players in general now, and full-backs in particular, are getting fitter though, and he's not added enough of a final product to threaten organised defenses if they're not tired. He only scored against relegated clubs at Chelsea if I remember right?

 

His wages are batshit though. Same as a lot of Man U players, but still.

Tbf some think this is why Mbuemo is prepared to turn down multiple Champions League qualifiers (including us) to be the latest to take a look at Man Utd's shitshow and think "I can fix them"

I have strange memories in my own way of Newcastle in 2016/17. Won the Championship that year thanks in part to Jack Grealish scoring an injury time equaliser for Villa against Brighton on the final day.

 

Also crazy to think that in the decade or so since that all of Newcastle, Villa and Brighton finished in the top 8 of the PL this season.

I don't think thats controversial, add McTominay. Even 2 ex utd players played in the champions league final.

Certainly I don't think many people saw McTominay's move to Naples ending with him being treated as a hero or scoring overhead kicks to win the league. Fair play to the lad though.

I can't really imagine much other than wages being the reason there. Although given that even with no CL Man U are supposedly offering double the wages we are it's hard to say that most people wouldn't do similar.

You really think a player is turning down Newcastle down for Man Utd, because of money? Unless you are Shearer you are not doing it. 

 

Which Champions league qualifiers has he turned down? Can't imagine it being Liverpool, Arsenal or City.

Obviously every player is different but if you follow that argument to its logical conclusion the saudi league would of never got off the ground as none of those clubs had any history.

 

It is a fact though under FFP only Man Utd, Liverpool, City and Chelsea can pay those type of wages with the later two crossing into "creative accounting" We really don't have a clue how much Newcastle could offer in a free market.

Im liking Utd going for proven premier league strikers in there prime. Since fergie its only happened once, that being Lukaku.

In a free market if Man Utd and Newcastle are both offering 500k a week, they are joining Man Utd.

Quite surprised how high Liverpool are. Utd will be lower once the under performing high earners like Rashford, Sancho, Casemiro go. Those 3 alone is costing 50m a year in wages.

I think if wages are the same, Champions League football is a draw that will tell for some players. But Newcastle definitely don't have a pull that outdoes a real difference in wages, even with that. I'd hope that with qualifying 2 of the last 3 years it doesn't look like a fluke either.

For a significant number of players that go there though, they've won their trophies and are getting a big retirement payday. John Duran, Alan Saint Maximum, and sorta Toney (sorta cos 29) are the biggest names I remember going there before they turn 30 from the Prem?

Ruben Neves for me, he could of gone to various big clubs you'd imagine.
