Not traditionally but the invites to that no-regulation champions league they tried a few years ago tells you who the big boys are. I think there will become a point, maybe now with FFP where its locked in due to owners wanting the US model of guaranteed income for sporting brands.

Wonder if Man Utd fans will look at McTominay winning Player of the Season after helping Napoli win Serie A and feel even more that the club might be the problem

I just think that what we’ve felt this season can’t really be compared to your liverpools and uniteds, who win stuff extremely regularly - they’ll never get the high of a twenty, seventy, or hundred and nineteen year wait. It just makes all those losing times gain a real perspective - I know that palace earnt their cup final win and 90 and 16 were markers on that journey. It’s extra beautiful coming after a bloody long road. 

I've only seen clips but I can imagine it was quite the party indeed. And yeah, it's quite something that this has been a season of long trophy droughts ending at the same time. But it's good for the sport that we can have clubs breaking through like this and it'll be cool if others can do it next year

He is a good player, playing in a weaker league. Lukaku has been rubbish in the prem for years and does well in Italy.

 

No problem selling him or any of the others. Onana is rubbish, but it was the right decision to sell De Gea.

Don't understand the De Gea comment who I think has got goalkeeper of the year in Serie A. I've never seen a top level keeper like onana get so many of the basics wrong, positioning, palming the ball back into danger etc.. I didn't know much about him at Inter but I genuinely can't understand how he's reached that level.

De Gea with no distribution, no ability to claim crosses. Not as bad as Onana mind, but £280k/week wages I think?

Villa complained to the EPL about a refereeing decision seems a bit pathetic to me. You have some decisions that go for you and some against you. If they had done better in previous games it wouldn’t make a difference.

How about the decisions that have gone their way over the season, or the ones, or ones that have gone against top 5 rivals. Or are we saying only mistakes in game 38 have an impact!

I'm happy with our season in the end. Trophy and Champions League qualification was above my higher expectations so I'm pleased we got that.

 

Though the last two games hints we're going to need to do some squad development to be ready for that challenge

Apparently they've complained to the PGMOL instead. The sympathetic ear that is

 

I get why they'd be infuriated, even if I don't think it's the most scandalous mistake ever seen. Maybe it's hard to let bygones be bygones when such a call goes against you

You can understand there anger. It won't go anywhere and they will likely withdraw once they calm down. 

 

They probably more pissed that this utd side beat them, there fans fully expected a win. When you think utd haven't beat anyone outside the bottom 3 since January.

I mean the COVID year from memory villa hugely benefited from a goal line mistake against Sheffield United when they were in a relegation battle , don’t remember them complaining then.

Thing is, its something the top teams tend to do, when a mistake is made they put a huge amount of pressure on PGMOL and the ref's to get favourable decisions in the months afterwards. I think if one club does it the others feel like they have to follow.

There's probably a degree of both anger at the referees from the game and irritation at falling flat on their face against a largely hopeless Man Utd, yes. Though it is worth noting Villa fans think they have an issue against teams that play a back three, as seen by the fact they failed to win any of 4 games against Crystal Palace.

There's plenty to kick United for, losing a post season friendly certainly isn't one of them. 

 

Utd still the biggest story.

Post-season friendlies should be ignored by everyone except a bored media. And I include England friendlies that are warm-ups for tournaments in that.

Tbf this is the attitude I have to the Club World Cup thing FIFA are insisting on having in a few weeks. I get why some like the idea but it feels hard to get that interested by it.

Its all meaningless glorified friendlies. Don't get me started non British managers calling the community shield a title and a trophy. 

 

Post season games though? No one wants them.

Yeah I'm aware. Newcastle did two post season friendlies in Australia last year for the money and it was super hard to give a sh*t about them. 

 

The club seemed to not really care itself given they sent the kids to play an Australian A-League all star 11 and the locals weren't happy.

I reserve the right to be marginally titillated by the Super Cup when it rolls around in august if spurs happen to win, but if/when we lose i'll completely ignore it and never give it another thought. 

(though with the club world cup nonsense happening the previous month, i'd imagine Inter and PSG will both be sending a bunch of 15yr old kids to Udinese to face the mighty Tottenham Hotspur, which will make it funnier when we lose i suppose)

Reminded me of those 2 Man U v Barcelona finals in terms of the gap in quality between both teams. One of those games where there is absolutely nothing the runner up could have done.
