its basically the Temu version of DARK.

 

but what the hell, I enjoyed it.

tried watching Falling Skies on Netflix.

 

forced myself to get to the end of ep.1

 

what an absolute pile of sh*t.

 

and they expect you to sit through 5 series?

 

all the characters were so annoying by the end of the first episode i was just hoping then new alien overlords would kill 'em all.

 

if it was a school project (judging by the production level, it just might be) you'd have to give them A for effort i guess, but overall as a piece of coursework you'd be lucky to scrape an F.

Just binged Criminal UK on Netflix which is a decade old or so. Seven episodes. Each episode was gripping from first to last minute. Basic. Stark. Straightforward storytelling.

re-watching another Netflix Harlan Coben masterpiece today - Hold Tight.

 

(well, I'm not really watching it, its on in the background while working).

 

there is something that struck me at the end of episode one and I just do not get it - Adam's mum is trying to track him down, and she ends up at the illegal rave, she asks the door bouncer to let her in and he tells her to go. then she thinks she see's Adam so she chases after him.

 

then - for absolutely no reason whatsoever, two bouncers beat the absolute sh*t out of her and leave her for dead.

 

why? what the hell do they care? why on earth would they do such a thing?

 

maybe the genius of the mighty Harlan Coben is just too much for my puny brain to fathom.

Based on the first episode, Diane Morgan's new show Ann Droid is absolutely f**king delightful

to try and counteract my moaning on the films thread, i thought i stop by here and talk about something i actually enjoyed.

 

just by chance, i found something called Summerwater on channel 4, and i hugely enjoyed it.

 

its basically an attempt to make a Scandi Noir type thing... but in Scotland, and for the most part i would say they succeeded.

 

each episode tells the back story of the different characters, and its well made enough to keep you interested and wanting to carry on.

 

its got Dougray Scott in it who i find is always great in these type of things, and here is not different.

 

there's also a weird little sub plot which is pretty much stolen from the cave on Dagobah.

 

yeah, i thought it was very good.

Thanks for the tip I'll try this. The original book by Sarah Moss is very good.. Another good one of hers is Ghost Wall A study of domestic abuse. in a folk horror setting with people reenacting Iron Age life. That would make a great film.

for some reason I put myself through the torture of another Harlen Coben thing on Netflix, this time "Caught".

 

at the end of it my only emotion was I hated the main character who was supposed to be the hero.

 

it was her fault that two people got killed, she walks around like the FBI when she just writes a bunch of crap for an internet blog, she takes no responsibility for her actions and for some bizarre reason nobody around her holds her to account.

 

at the end we are meant to think she is the hero of her righteous quest - but in reality she should be in prison awaiting trial on numerous charges.

 

still, in the end I got exactly what I expected from Harlen Coben so I guess I have no right to moan... I'm sat here typing this whilst he is sat in his swimming pool filled with cash...

 

 

I've come to think that all these Coben adaptations are in fact all the same program, and AI just pastes different faces on the characters for each "story".

I didn't think I'd ever watched a Coben adaptation or read one of the original books, though turns out I did - I watched one called The Stranger back in 2020. Clearly didn't stick long in my memory as until researching it, I didn't know that was one of his. Queens Gambit or Black Mirror, it was not. 

 

But clearly it's popular tripe in some respect if Netflix is going yes to everything he has to offer and are apparently about to start trying his most popular individual character, as seen below:
