I could kind of see this point of view other than that they headlined Reading a few years ago. And, if they are deemed big enough for that, they are much more of a 'Glastonbury' band than a 'Reading' band.

But Glastonbury isn't Reading.  For good or for bad, the bar seems to be set higher with Glastonbury for its headliners.  I think there was something Michael said a few years ago about them not being big enough these days and that the last time they played it wasn't even that good.

Really? Until arguably recently (this year!) Reading generally gets them out of the same sort of pool, just different bands (Eminem, Green Day sort of size). Plus Mumfords, Metallica, Blur, etc (if you get my point!).

The Cure, at the moment, are largely irrelevant and haven't released anything of note (or anything at all) in a while, so Glastonbury ain't gonna book em. release an album that catches the attention of critics or have a nostalgia-esque boost in peoples eyes and then maybe they stand a chance, but as it is, it wouldn't make much sense. their current setlists are barely different from what they played at Glastonbury 21 years ago

There's a lot of overlap, but since at least 2009 Glastonbury has been looking a notch above Reading in terms of headliner expectations. To my mind, Green Day are a great example of that gap - big enough to headline Reading, but would be considered probably the weakest Pyramid headliner in 10+ years. The same applies for Biffy Clyro, The Libertines and The Strokes.

Or to look at it another way - the year that Glastonbury had Arcade Fire, Metallica, and Kasabian as headliners is generally considered to be exceptionally weak. Put the same bands at Reading and it'd be considered a passable or even very strong trio.

Having said all that, I'd absolutely love to see The Cure at Glastonbury, I saw them at Bestival and thought they were great (better than anything I saw at Glastonbury this year actually). But they're absolutely not big enough to be a Pyramid Headliner any more given how the Festival has grown both in size and in reputation since they last played while they've not done much new. They'd be an amazing choice to close out the Other Stage - on the Sunday night while Ed Sheeran is on please.

Can confirm they were on very good form at Bestival this year. I'm not a die hard fan but I really enjoyed them - had a great time. Small crowd helped though I think.
