Wednesday night

Flipping love Wednesday at Glastonbury, that feeling of release, plus an overnight journey, plus over indulgence plus friends, plus just being there is enough. No need for entertainment, just enjoy, crash, sleep, repeat..

I really struggled Wednesday last year as I worked 6am till 4 on the Tuesday then drove up to Glastonbury that night and "slept" in the car over Tuesday night. Still had a good explore though and a fair bit of booze, think the adrenaline and excitement takes over, although I was in bed by 11pm!

My best experience on the wednesday was sitting by the outdoors piano in the healing fields (i think) when a random (though may well have been a performer elsewhere) wandered up and started playing. We were the only ones there when he started but an hour later there were about a 100 people crowd singing along to his (equally good/humerous) 90s hip-hop covers. I don't even particularly like hip hop but enjoyed that at least as much as the stones.

I find it very difficult not to plan the Friday-Sunday. Zero chance I'm planning anything on the Wednesday, can't wait.

Love it, my favourite time of the festival.

Get up, get in, put the tent up have a mooch round, figure out what's changed, what's the same. Feel outraged cos the pie stall has moved 10m. Get a feel for it. Look smugly on as people arrive afte you're set up and say to your mates ''ooh, wouldn't want to be arriving now'. Meet a few people, have a couple of drinks, feel giddy with excitement, have a couple more drinks, go to the efests meet, wait for my best friend to arrive just as I'm getting totalled. Hope he pulls me back from the brink of making a total c**t of myself. Realise that's a forlorn hope and he'll just arrive feeling thirsty and wanting to catch up. Get sentimental with friends, old and new. Stumble round a bit. Have some chips. Collapse into tent.

Yes. This. We say this loads of times, right through to Friday, with increasing exlaimation.

Tents pitched by 9am, sleep til 11am, then drink. Wander the site, checking out what's new and going to the old favourites. Then on Weds last year managed to accidentally get to Block 9 at around 9pm when it opened (the times may be out, but the sentiment is right)... A few hours and a few mustaches later, we were unconscious....
