Are Foals really big enough to headline?

It be the weakest headline slot on major festival history.

But I'd like to be surprised.

I think of them more headlining smaller festivals like y not, boardmasters, latitude.

When I think headliners I think

Noel Gallagher, foo fighters, metallica, biffy clyro, jay z

Just not foals.

How well would they sell an arena tour.

Wouldn't justify them if it was half sold venues like with vampire weekend.

Even chase and status didn't fill up the Manchester arena with the upper tier curtained off. They filled just a little more than frank turner. And they are contenders as well but judging by there performance in 2013 they should be but tbh I never watched foals in 2013 either so can't really judge.

Might be a better argument if you left him out

True he's headlining a smaller festival but I think he could still headline reading as well and pack in the crowds. He's got sold out arena tours under his belt, the legacy of oasis as well and successful solo albums.

Just think foals not quite headline status yet but future headliners.. Yes if they carry on the momentum. Sure they'll headline in the next 3/4 years if not 2017 if they don't play in 2016

if FF, FATM and Foals is he best they could do next year, we my as well forget next year ad look forward.

We might as well just accept it, the rapid downhill decline is just gonna continue until the festival goes out of business

So many potential headliners

Foo Fighters

Flo

Foals

Slipknot

Kanye West Be surprised if R&L could pull off booking Kanye

Bloc Party As much as I'd love them to be Russell and Kele aren't headline sized

Muse Don't think they'll festivals next year (Isle of Wight maybe) and I don't think they'd be that popular with R&L goers anymore

Linkin Park Too much of a longshot I think. Reaction would probably be too negative

Really just those 4 if I'm honest

The Big Chill and Wireless can book Kanye but R&L can't?

They both booked Jessie J too. :)

He's got a very poor record at festivals. I kind of feel like he'd be more appreciated at R+L than other festivals but still can't see them going for it.

I hope this is sarcasm.

Muse aren't popular enough to headline R&L?

I don't think Kanye would want to or need to do any UK festivals other than Glastonbury anymore, and I'd say the same of Jay Z/Beyonce/Katy Perry

And no, I'm sure this won't go down well with people on here. But I honestly don't think the reaction to Muse headlining again would be positive. I don't think they'd be as popular with the younger audience Melvin wants who wouldn't really care that much for Muse I don't think and they wouldn't be as safe a bet for ticket sales as Foo Fighters.

I hate saying it but I think they'll just become one of the many great still active bands tht everyone dreams of getting at R&L each year only to be disappointed (Weezer/Placebo/Interpol etc.)

I might be misunderstanding but that seems a bit contradictory to me, if they'd be poorly received when booked then everyone wouldn't be dreaming about them being booked?

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
