Indeed. I am sure we all hope that there is more pride, passion and integrity but ultimately if you turn a big profit then it's a success.

You're right, it's a business for them and like every other business they're out to make a profit.

From what I can gather though, the core team behind PKP have been there from the start and have built the festival up over the years. There's obviously big sponsors and other organisations involved now but I like to think, based on the experiences I've had with them, that they still do it for the same reasons that made them start in the first place. Maybe that's idealistic and things have now changed - who knows what deals they had to broker after the storm to keep the whole festival going?

headliner thought: soulwax & 2manydjs?

expecting a new album from soulwax, belgain locals, called in 13.... would be a pretty awesome show to have them, followed by 2manydjs closing it all out.....

Sadly not. Netsky is closing the festival. Would love to see Soulwax at PP again but doubt they'll be there at all. They certainly won't be headliners.

I wonder what's going on in the Soulwax camp. It's been nearly two years ago that they cancelled Pukkelpop to finish working on their new album.

spoke to them at a 2manydjs show in brighton a few months ago, was a bit spangled but i remember asking and i think they just went "argue, we know, we know......we're working on it....."

...the usual soulwax reply to anything album related, been the case since 'Nite Versions'

Every year they announce some Shelter bands the same weekend that Groezrock runs in Belgium. They always share 3 or 4 bands that can't be announced until that weekend. Last year NOFX, PUP and Touche Amore were announced with some more bands the friday 2nd may (1st groezrock day) and two years ago Emmure and Killswitch Engage were announced during Groezrock weekend.

Groezrock runs this weekend, so I'm almost sure that this friday, saturday or next monday we will get a few names. I would like to see Refused, Satanic Surfers, Raised Fist or Millencolin announced from Groezrock line up as all of them are swedish, so will be avaliable in august.

I think we can expect Refused and some others on Monday or Tuesday (this Friday is a bank holiday, so probably no news then).

Also, TV On The Radio is apparently making up for their cancelled February dates (which included Brussels) at the end of August.

UB40 on tour in Europe about the right time for Pukkelpop. In my opinion, if there's one thing Pukkelpop lacks it's a middle aged cod reggae band.....

Make it so Chokri

(To be fair, I didn't know they were even still a band, thought they'd fallen out)

I'm getting married on August 15th and the (future) wife and I decided to go to Europe for our honeymoon. Being the music fans that we are, we quickly decided that if we're going to Europe we're going to have to go to one of these massive European music festivals.

As a bonus, my family's homeland of Bissen, Luxembourg (my last name is Bissen) is only a few hours away from Hasselt.

As an extra bonus, AmenRa is playing Pukkelpop. We were already very much planning on going before they were announced, but being able to see them will be an incredible treat. I've been a huge fan of them for many years, and they've never played a show in North America, and it sounds like it never will.

So, yeah, this will be fun! If anybody's got some insight or advice for somebody travelling to the festival like myself I would love to hear it.

Sounds good to me, not your usual honeymoon! Not sure how it'll compare to a US festival but you'll have a great time. Great atmosphere, great people. Line up is weak this year but still 70+ acts still to come.

It won't take much to top the festivals that we've got here in the US. Even while the lineup is fairly weak for Pukkelpop, I'm assuming it'll be a good time and the crowds will be much better than what we get over here across the pond. Also, this festival is WAY cheaper than anything we get over here, both in ticket prices and in food and drink prices.

It's a strange honeymoon indeed, but we're a strange couple! We'll be in Europe for two weeks altogether, heading up to Norway after some time in Belgium and Luxembourg.
