What seems to have passed you by is that the army is the state-created easy life for the thick rich twats. Two O levels gets you to be a Major General .... if your dad is the Duke of Westminster, and that's you when he's snuffed it.

Why else do you think there's good pensions after just 20 years of work when the scum in this country have to work for 50 years?

Ermm ... some are trying to be specific, it's you that has been turning some things into sweeping generalisations.

For example, you refuse to see the CV area as distinctly different to the paid-to-camp areas - and yet it is, both historically and in how it operates compared to the "basic" festival attendance against the premium offers.

To analyse any issue you have to first recognise differences. As soon as you fail to recognise differences, all ability to analyse has gone. Instead, it is used as why the differences are OK - in a most self-justification way.

Let's pretend that nothing "I" do can be criticised, and then "I" can pretend to be perfect, and then "I" can keep exploiting others free of any criticism.

No, I'm stating that Sandhurst - the village which I've lived near to for over 25 years of my life (including within Sandhurst itself) - is full of rich thick twats.

And those rich thick twats don't believe they should have to work for a living, which is why they got daddy to give them fantastic pensions for 20 years work.

Neil I do know and understand the history of the festival but a large proportion of CV field dwellers now are middle class/upper class people who want a more luxurious experience.

But no one is being the servant of those CV-ers, having to toil for them at Glastonbury to give them their luxury.

Worthy View has servants, in no different a way to Downton Abbey.

You completely ignored my point about how I couldn't afford to go in the CV field this year but for much, much less money can afford an off-site camping option which involves bringing and pitching my own tent.

And yet it costs more to go into Worthy View on any real-world basis. The CV fields are cheaper.

(yes, I know you also need a CV - which I have, as my only vehicle [so no different to your car, if you have one], and which is cheaper to run than the car it replaced)

& for the record, my old boy joined at 17 as a Private and worked his way up, so none of the privilege you talk of (hence my original post about him coming from a working class background).

As for the pension side, I'm a great believer in rewarding people who have served. But let's not get into that, as it's clear we're on different sides of the fence here!

The army is about one quarter of the size it used to be about 30 years ago. The high command is the same size.

Oh yeah that too. And it didn't escape my notice that giving a good pension to people likely to get killed is quite financially astute compared to providing a good wage.

Yes, it happens - the job they freely agreed to do has dangers. Less dangers than a builder has, but there you go. The ones with less danger deserve to do less than half the work of those with greater danger.
