I seem to remember as recently as the early 2000s that Glasto used to advertise itself as being a Friday-Sunday event. There was no mention made online about Wednesday or Thursday. People still came and were catered for (after a fashion).

I really don't like the divisiveness on threads like this. Having done a few Glastonburys on my own with kids, I've opted for a just offsite capsite this year for a few reasons. The main one is that, to have any chance of a decent camping spot within the site, (esp in a family field) you need to arriveon a Wednesday & this year (because of school / work commitments) we might not be able to. Last year, I really struggled to get our gear (& single family sized tent) to and from the car. Hiring 2 x small tents in an offsite camping isn't that different to buying new smaller tents and, for us, makes more sense.

I've stayed in the CV fields for the last couple of Glastonbury's and in all fairness loved it there however my CV was, shall we say, cheap and cheerful and for the last couple of years hardly left my drive. It cost me around £300 a year to insure and around £100 for 6 months tax add on yearly depreciation, the cost of a campervan ticket (£85) and the costs mount up.

So, for me having now sold the camper WV was still less than I would have paid out if I still had my van. Yes I could have gone back to ordinary camping like I've done previously multiple times and loved it but with 2 young kids and now that the wife has decided to join me each year 3 days with the grandparents is enough to ask so we can now just stroll up on the friday (as we did this year in the campervan) , dump our bags and go. I won't bother queueing for a shower, I'd rather my tent to the yurt ive booked but it is convenient and still cheaper than last year for me personally.

Live and let live eh?

I didn't even realise there was the worthy view option last year so it certainly didn't 'ruin' the atmosphere of my festival.

I echo the 'each to their own' sentiment. Personally I couldn't be bothered to trek up that massive hill to get to my tent every day/ night and much prefer being down in the thick of it (Even if it means sleeping in the car park on a tuesday night - which not everyone can do) but if others want to go and camp in Worthy View knock yourselves out and have a great time - I don't see how it affects other people in general camping as it is so far out of the way - and it then leaves more camping space down below in general camping and less tents left at the end of the festival.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
