Been Scammed

I know it's my own fault for being too trusting and naïve, but I believed in the Glastonbury spirit. Paid someone for a last minute ticket yesterday to get it delivered by special delivery and the moment the money was transferred all went very quiet :-(

Hope everyone has a wonderful Glastonbury.

Man that's crap. :(

Sadly the large amount of people wanting to go at the last minute seems to bring out the scammers willing to exploit that. I did think it was strange that there was a high number of tickets becoming available just days before the festival.

Did you pay by paypal? As long as you didn't send it as a gift there's still a chance you could have the money refunded.

Terrbile news, of course the first question should be 'what the hell were you thinking?' but that's no help now. As musky said there may be ways you can try and get a refund if you paid by paypal, not so sure if you just transferred the money into a bank account but if that was the case then maybe you'd have a chance to go to the police as they could trace the account?

Yeah, I know. I did a load of checks and weighed up the risks and thought it'd be worth it, poor decision!

No, I did it by direct bank transfer. I have their bank details, mobile number and email address, so hopefully the police can do something!

Money is a real shame, but devastated I'm not going. Expensive lesson learnt.

I'm really sorry that you appear to have been scammed :(

Unfortunately, the ONLY relatively safe way to buy ANY allegedly 'spare' event tix is face-to-face really. In my experience, Paypal generally offers little or no protection when it comes to outright scammers. Once you've paid and they've extracted the do$h from their Paypal A/C (which, needless to say is almost immediately of course !) Paypal generally do nothing whatsoever to recover the missing money. Even when they ultimately close the claim in your favour after several weeks, all that happens is they tell you they were unable to recover the funds if the Paypal A/C had already been emptied. Like it's any surprise that a scammer would empty their A/C just as soon as they could after the do$h turned up  They obviously know exactly where the money went and have full names/addresses but they still do nothing about it and they will not give you the relevant info either so you can't even try to do something yourself such as taking legal action against the seller.

If you're now absolutely certain that you've been had and there isn't a genuine reason for any delay or inability to contact the seller etc. then do report it to the Police, giving them everything you have that might identify the scammer. You may of course find that they're not really that interested in following it up but hopefully they'll do something positive. TBH, it's perhaps unlikely that you'll ever see the do$h again I'm afraid but at least you can hopefully help prevent the b@rsteward doing the same thing to someone else in the future. Good luck :) and I hope you at least get the money back eventually. Hardly a good substitute for not going but better than not going and paying £200 or whatever for the privilege of not going and all that.

Thanks guys. I'll be doing all I can to claim back what I can. The police have been pretty helpful as I've got details of our conversations proving what the money was for.

Just gutted I'm not going. I live pretty close and have been watching all the happy Festival folk on their way!

My point being, that you have no rights.

The festival sold out ,so the ticket ,even if it was it valid ,would have someone else's face on it.

Fair enough, you will own the ticket, but it will not officially gain you entry.

but thats a different issue to buying a ticket and not recieving the ticket, which is theft, whilst buying the ticket doesn't give any "right" to use it to gain entry to the festival, the OP is within his rights to buy the ticket for whatever reason, and if the seller takes the money without supplying the goods, then its theft

Yeah, that's kinda why I suggest that the Police might not be too interested in doing very much to help. I certainly wouldn't expect them to be particularly sympathetic anyway. However at the end of the day, fraud is fraud, and the OP may not have been the only one apparently ripped off by the alleged scumbag.

Fortunately the police are interested. Me trying to get into the festival on a no-transferable ticket is not illegal, it's just against the terms and conditions of Glastonbury Festival. The transaction between me and the scumbag was theft and what I planned to do with the ticket is not of the police's interest. It could have been a very expensive souvenir for all they care!

Please with the police so far, some faith in humanity restored!
