If your going to take some and are serious about your music, I'd recommend splashing out a bit more and getting one of these:

http://minirigs.co.uk/

The sound quality you get out of them (and volume if you want) is unbelievable for something the size of a coffee mug. They are hand built by a bloke in Bristol I think, and it's the best £80 I've ever spent, I take it everywhere with me.

Just as long as you don't mind us camped next to you, blaring out our favourite "Xfactor Greatest Hits" compilation all day. :dancing:

BTW I recommend the XMI minis - loud for their size and the battery will last the whole festival.

Bought one of those this week, its really good. Will definitely be taking it to Glasto

I have one of these

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00510EA5U/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?qid=1370705427&sr=8-9&pi=SL75

£14 quid, charge lasts a good long time and the audio quality is surprisingly very good. I plu it into a tiny MP3/radio and use it to listen to Worthy FM. If you want low cost, light weight and get the job done then its great.

Highly recommend these. Sound quality is better that ones twice the price and the battery lasts for around 10 hours.

I bought these for glastonbury 2011 and they are brilliant for their size and price. You get good volume and bass and they run on AAA battery's (although you do need a lot of them) but the upside is you can replace the battery's once they have died (which i never needed to) unlike the built in rechargeable ones (once they have run out that's pretty much it at a festival)

i didn't buy them off this site by the way so have a look around.

The "tinny" and "you are at a music festival" arguments are just invalid. I have a small speaker, think a link was posted to it here, and it is no where near tinny. It's decent enough to be able to get good quality and volume for the few yards your camp will be without annoying everyone around you and if someone does say something it's not hard to turn it down.

As for the you are at a music festival you don't need it thing, what about the time you are in the camp site and just want some background noise for the drinks with your friends and gearing up and preparing to head out of the camp site? You aren't going to be sat in front of some sort of stage every hour you are there. I get that everyone says you will spend no time in your tent, but thats doesn't go for everyone. Probably not taking mine, but the point still stands.

I'm taking this one. Wasn't going to spend loads in case it gets nicked. But the sound is actually very good considering the price. Just nice to have a bit of Worthy FM on in the morning and also has an iPod dock. Gonna get a few chilled out playlists done later today. Pink Floyd / Neil Young / Eagles / Creedance etc.

Anyone more than welcome to swing by Wed afternoon. We always like to chill at the tent for a few hours after setting up. Settle in etc and meet our neighbours.

I'll be taking a couple of X-Minis but I'd love one of these, they look well good. Thanks for the link.

I heard one of these a few days ago - absolutely mind-blowing sound.

If you want portable sounds, there really is no other sensible choice!

+1 for minirigs - I had one until it got nicked. Sound is very good for their size but they do still sound like what they are imo, a small-ish portable speaker.

Replaced it with a B&O Beolit 12 which is excellent....sounds high-end but with a price to match. I got a good deal on one from ebay but still felt a bit sick spending the money. Haven't regretted it though, one of the best bits of hifi kit I've owned - perfect for the campervan.
