It was amazing!!! His encore was I Fought the Law, Getting Away With It, then How Soon is Now run into There is A Light. Needless to say, I blubbed liek a baby.

It was beautiful.

He also did Stop Me, London, and Bigmouth.

Luckily I bumped into a few people I knew so I wasnt crying alone!

he was ace at the stone roses gig on saturday.

How soon is now was wondrous. His solo stuff was bog average mind.

I think I have to see JM.

Saw him play with Neil Finn in Hammersmith a few years ago - magic version of 'There is a Light'.

Shame about the solo stuff - hopefully there'll be some rugby or something on at the side of the stage...

Half his set was smiths songs. It was enjoyable. His solo stuff wasnt bad I dont think, it was just forgettable.

But yeh, I think he is better at the smiths songs than morrissey (though I am not a huge smiths fans to be honest)

Brilliant at Parklife, didn't actually mind most of his solo stuff. Well worth waiting for Bigmouth, There Is A Light and How Soon Is Now? anyway.

yeh I agree, there was nothing wrong with his solo stuff, but it didnt make me want to go and buy the album. But certainly watchable and inoffensive

Been shamelessly dining out on this for 30 years, not particularly proud, but hell, one last time, I was there, and it was, and still sounds magical now. Some bright spark thankfully saw fit to record this.

A lot is said about Glastonbury not being what it used to be but I for one am most certainly not in that camp. However, this performance is the only one that ever makes me question that stance.

The Smiths 1984, Glastonbury.

Johnny Marr and Morrissey Backstage Glastonbury 1984. A time and a place captured..........

And Johnny's thoughts...

When the Smiths played Glastonbury in 1984, we were slightly out of our element. Previously, we'd always played to manic, devoted audiences who were more like supporters at a cup final, but at Glastonbury we were playing to people who largely hadn't seen us before. It wasn't like when Jay-Z played, but we were very "urban" compared to the other acts. Our songs were so fast that we got through our first four in about the time it took for the other bands to finish their intro. Eventually, I did manage to instigate a stage invasion, which raised a few eyebrows. One fan was trying to climb on stage, I helped pull him up, and then a few more people followed, and all of a sudden we'd managed to turn it into a Smiths gig.

What people don't realise is how mellow and low-key Glastonbury used to be. It wasn't televised, and it wasn't a career-defining moment back then. You'd turn up to find just three fields – and they would be by no means full. You had a choice between the shit field, the field no one cares about, or the muddy one. Today's video screens would have seemed like an utter abomination.

Glastonbury's rise in popularity has a lot to do with rave culture. People were getting together in warehouses at the end of motorways just to avoid the police, and then they realised Glastonbury offered thousands of people a chance to get together legally. Suddenly, Glastonbury no longer seemed an outdated idea, whereas in the 80s, it had been caught between the ideals of the 70s and something which had yet to be defined.

Now I can't claim I saw his show firsthand, but the footage of Marr's performance makes it look as piss poor as his album.

May I suggest that you don't read a thread about a band/singer you don't like then? Or perhaps, just don't get involved?

Going into a thread where people are discussing how much they like a band, simply posting that band "are shit" and then saying "there, I said it", like you've dropped some kind of eloquent and insightful reality-bomb that we were all huddled in here ignoring, how very un-trolly of you.
