Little luxuries

We all know what we need to take, but what little luxuries are you planning on taking? What will you slip in the pocket of a rucksack that will make G2013 a little bit more special.

I'm taking a coffee percolator

It's light, tough and cheap and the smell of fresh coffee in the morning should start the day and, hopefully, a few conversations.

We have a caravan so no need to travel light and lots of room for luxuries. But remembering back to camping days one of the best bits of kit was a toaster. The size and weight of a dinner plate, it sits on top of a gas burner and allows you to toast five slices of bread at once.

There's something about toast that's so different to bread. So it's toast and marmalade, toast and pate etc.

TBH the self inflating mattresses aren't any more comfy and they still need blowing up. They are, however, smaller to pack and a lot warmer. My Thermarest has been used in some fairly out-of-the-way places and proven its worth.

My old airbed was very compact, one of the ones that is made up of 6 individual tubes/cylinder things that were all inflated seperatly so could be inflated by your mouth. It was just a cheapy from Argos but it was perfect and I still haven't seen anything else which folds as small. My sister works in Blacks now so she can get one on discount for me, it all comes down to size as even the very light weight ones are bulkier than I'd like.

I bought one of these about 4 years ago now http://www.dropshiponline.co.uk/images/ST300.jpg It cost me £100 at the time but is the best purchase I have ever made. With some elastic rope ties I can get everything in it and the wheels are solid (not like suitcases and stuff where they snap off). It all folds down and I unscrew the wheels to make it flat in the boot of the car. I have had numerous offering to buy it off me at the festival but there is no way I would sell it. And once it is empty, I drop it off at the secure lock up and leave it until monday!

I don't know if Blacks would stock this, but it is very, very light:

No, insulation though. The new Thermarest Neo range has some insulation (it reflects the heat back) and is still a lot lighter and smaller than a standard Thermorest. Blacks should have those.

I bought one of these for taking to Bestival this year;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/BISON-FOLDING-FISHING-TROLLEY-PNUEMATIC/dp/B005CTXKM4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357212913&sr=8-1

Although I'd say it wasn't as good as a garden trolley it served my needs and meant I only had to make one trip taking all my stuff in to the festival. It was much lighter on the way out as I wasn't hauling 2 trays of beers!

I'll definitely be taking it to Glasto this year.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
