sleeping in car / van

I wasn't aware you weren't allowed to. You learn something every day.

You can certainly see the appeal of sleeping in the back of a transit on a mattress compared to a tent, although I don't know if I'd fancy a walk all the way to a car park at the end of the night, hell I had to stop for a coffee, a pint and a meal just to get back to Dairy.

No, I think its to do with when they used to have loads of touts and thieves loitering about in the car park, Because relatively few people go back to the cars (even when something is really important like beer supplies in it) its easier for the security to keep an eye on it.. Also there's no loo's in the carparks, and if loads of people slept in the cars, it would potentially cause pollution issues, which can jeopardise the licence. You're right though Spindles, it's far enough to get back to dairy on a night, let alone across half a dozen churned up fields in the dark - no thanks!

Often used to sleep in the car at festivals but then that was back when you parked in the camp ground. Also used to regularly sleep in the car at gigs. NEC, Nynex, Wembley Stadium.....

5 of us slept in a mini metro after seeing The Cure at the NEC . Tight squeeze.

Yeah, makes total sense. I'm not averse to kipping in a car when needs must either, it can be the most sensible option if you have/have had a long drive, I don't drive myself, but have the occasional long passenge.

The car parks nowadays are very quiet and any wanderers stick out like sore thumbs (especially at night time) so be prepared to be stopped, questioned, sent away back into the fest or even worse sent home if the security guards are really bored. However you're perfectly within your rights to be taking stuff to and from your van or car 24 hours a day but I dont reccomend sleeping in it because the licence requires you and everyone else not to.

Gone are the days of the free for all minI-satelite festvals all around the perimter of the main festival. Great fun it was but Glasto would not be here now if that had carried on.
