House Music

I'm not a religious man, in fact I'm an atheist basically, but, I read today that it was Mahalia Jackson, who, sat behind Martin Luther King, prompted him to pep up his, at that point rather boring speech 50 years ago by telling him to do the the "I have a dream..." bit, which she'd heard him do some weeks earlier. No one it seems is so crass as to attempt a house re-mix of any Mahalia tune, thankfully, but this is religious, and in deference to her late, beyond great, heaven sent talent, I play this for you now. Ann Nesby is no Mahalia, but hell she can sing and if ever I was to become a believer, this is the song I'd be singing. Please listen to Mahalia Jackson if you have half a chance.

Just a heads up to all the house bods, Frankie Knuckles and Kevin Saunderson is playing a street party in shore ditch on the 21st September. Definitely getting my tickets to this tomorrow.

Will make a point of stopping off at this after my trip to see Amp Fiddler on the 19th in Amsterdam, two true legends.

Very classy, like it a lot.

I addition to Ultra Nate, can someone please book the Mighty Barbara Tucker for 2014 too. These two deserve a slot ahead of any act you might care to argue for IMHO.

Utterly shameless bump. Good night party people!

Was lucky enough to have made it to this event. Kind of special for me to hear Frankie Knuckles play in London after a 25 year gap, same friends, nothing's changed really. House is truly timeless............

All this 100m from where I used to work in in London 1988

Yeh I know what you mean. I used to get really ticked off with Beatport though, as when the sub-genre was formed it was full of tracks like the above and labelled as progressive on the site. Either progressive has changed (to me anyway) or they're labelling it wrong because tracks like the above are hardly ever featured in their prog charts anymore.

If you like that though, check out Adam K & Soha, EDX, Shingo Nakamura, even early Deadmau5 (his remix of Morgan Page - Longest Road is a classic).

I used to like a bit of prog house as a youth, for a while if a track was under 10 minutes long I wasn't interested!

I remember the Sasha CD one one of the essential mix comps only havimh 4 songs on it but it was still about 40 mins long..

This one comes in at over 15 mins!

Quite a blokey/trainspotter scene though !

Is mainstream "progessive"/electro house e.g. Swedish House Mafia/Alesso/Hardwell shunned here? :P

What does "progressive house" even mean? Never understood that wing. Progressing from what? House is fine just it is, surely?

    • The Great Fete Festival (Sunday Only) Ocean Colour Scene day on Tickets For Good.
    • I was also at Ghost but seated. When they scanned my ticket's and they came up as seated they printed a small ticket with the seat number info.
    • I was standing for Ghost at O2 London last year where they put the phone in a pouch beforehand so I assume they're is a mechanism in place for people in seats.
    • Most likely not, keeping an eye on Tixel and Twickets might be the best option.
