I just looked into his tour dates for next year and he's sold out most of a 25 date Academy-ish sized tour. That's pretty good going. Twice the dates of Alt-J as well.

Initially, the idea of Jake Bugg playing as high as 3rd sounds silly.

However, really when you look at it come next summer he'll be as big as The Vaccines, Bombay Bicycle Club and Kaiser Chiefs who played 3rd top this year at R&L.

I actually think he's more of a draw to young people than Bloc Party now. As I fan of both acts I checked out ticket situations. I could have got Bloc Party tickets for Glasgow Academy on the door the night they played. Jake Bugg has already sold out the same venue for a gig next February.

Having said that I can see why people would think someone with one short album shouldn't be given that big a spot.

To headline R&L there's no chance but to play it's the same as it ever was.

Did MCR not do several arenas pre R&L? AFAIK, Bloc Party have played Alexandra Palace, and are playing Earls Court but haven't done much else.

MCR is sort of an anomaly booking; however is more justified than Bloc Party headlining as MCR have a rabid fan base that shifted a lot of day tickets whereas Bloc Party don't.

I actually think Bloc Party have got smaller since their hiatus.

Their last tour before they went on hiatus they played arenas, this year even their bigger tour was still only academies.

I also don't feel the singles from their new album e.g. Octopus have anything like the popularity or public awareness that their old singles did.

A great live band but not big enough for 2nd in my mind nevermind headlining.

Yeah they're doing the academy tour with Earls Court as the only big date.

The MCR tour was before they were announced for R&L. I thought Bloc are doing a full on academy tour with just the London leg at a big venue.

However you could counter-argue that although MCR played arenas a fair few of the dates sold poorly, I think Cardiff was the most notable, whilst most dates on Bloc Party's tour have sold very well.

May have over reacted about Jake Bugg just read the e festivals article and it says supporting Stone Roses not subbing Which maybe means it's just a PR favor to the stone roses who seem fond of him.

Maybe Bloc Party are also third then? Wouldn't surprise me tbh, Kaiser Chiefs once subbed and they was third this year.. (Though I could see Bloc Party doing the tent against someone big at Reading/Leeds?)

and at the time MCR were much bigger than Bloc Party at the time, there is 0 chance of them headlining and will only sub based on past history. (They've not even sold out Earls Court yet! and you've now got the brilliant Joy Formidable supporting!)
